Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.

just coming to the realization that i hate writing npcs in threads. i'm talking about in a game where it's part of a prompt and you can control an unimportant npc; asking a villager for directions, the bartender, the battle instructor, those kinds of npcs. i hate doing it. i get a lot more fun and mileage out of utilizing game settings as hooks instead, or the environment, or non-sentient npcs.

i think i dislike it because it feels so self flagellatory? like you can make the npcs do whatever you want in a thread and it's going to be immediately apparent if you're one of those rpers angling to make your character miserable or look ~super cool~ or exposition and info dump or infomod without any risks or whatever. it's also easy to overthink whether you're making the npcs too strong in the spotlight or if their existence is really annoying or dragging the pace down or if the npc isn't really doing anything to prop up the pcs that should be driving he thread. or keeping accents or details consistent.

like, i get it, i've been a mod in the past and i've played mod npcs and i know exactly how time consuming it is. i would always eagerly throw any opportunity at my players to take the reigns and they never did. i always thought they were just lazy but maybe they felt like how i do now.
