Actually it happened a little before summer, so I don't know what the deal is, but I did notice the game got really slow and quiet for a while after the setting change.
You're probably right and that's what I find frustrating about when those kinds of characters try to do villain things, because it DOES tend to dissolve into pissing contests between players over who gets to take out the Big Bad, but it doesn't really work out when the villain is a player character and thus harder to write around without making them unplayable. I know there are characters who would want to take action but the fact that it's not an NPC, you can't just vanquish them and be done for a few months. I've been trying to have my characters ignore the entire plot but when people keep making posts about it, it gets harder to justify.
