in all seriousness, just try to get in on the ground floor of something getting popular. post around memes, tag out to canonmates, pm and friend people on plurk. you'll end up with a lot of overlap.

take the sports anime hype a while back. if you were into basketball anime and you friended people from that fandom, you could've easily jumped to volleyball anime and bike anime and baseball anime together. same with the idol hype, a fair amount of popular movies, and young adult-aimed tv series.

the main thing is being willing to hop from canon to canon and not getting left behind in the process because a fair amount of them are just fandom friends with each other and the groups fluctuate a lot.
