why not get to know people instead of praying to sailor moon?
Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

GAME IDEAS
Re: GAME IDEAS
(Anonymous) 2017-11-20 02:39 am (UTC)(link)- Fantasy game where everyone is inexplicably centaurs in a world of other fantasy folk. Characters wake up in this world to discover that their bodies have changed and that they are thrown in the middle of either: a) environment or b) political conflict. I was thinking the aesthetic would be very Final Fantasy 12 and Shadow of the Colossus.
- Harry Potter AU set in Victorian Era London. There's a
Jack the Ripperwizard serial killer on the loose and is causing strife in the magical community by challenging the general populaces opinion on the Statute of Secrecy. I would like it to be dark and kind of horrorish like Penny Dreadful or 2009 Sherlock Holmes. Characters would be allowed to do pretty much anything with the setting while the main plot happens.I feel like these are a very niche market and probably not what dwrp really wants, so I'm a little hesitant about them. But if anyone has input/suggestions/feedback I'd love to hear.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-20 09:08 am (UTC)(link)Harry Potter horror AU sounds good, though. Everybody is familiar with the source material so it's easy to work charactrs into the AU. The fantasy aspect means that you don't have to worry too much about Victorian history/culture, and the historical aspect means that you don't have to worry too much abotu Harry Potter canon. Seems like a very playable premise.
Re: GAME IDEAS
(Anonymous) 2017-11-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)Like: There's no magically experienced or supportive faculty. The "headmaster" is basically just the overworked and underfunded head of every struggling school ever--maybe well-meaning but pulled in so many directions that the students' overall welfare is often the first thing to slip through the cracks. Kids are roughly equally likely to end up attending voluntarily or through social services. The government is constantly skulking around, both to keep an eye on the potentially dangerous students and to try to worm their way into using the student body as a research project. Pretty much no one has any idea how their powers work, and attempted "heroics" are both officially disapproved of and deeply unglamorous, since it's just the students trying to scramble something together without getting caught.
Most importantly, the player-characters' decisions would actually affect the overall course of the setting and plot's development. Does the student body come together in some semblance of mutual support to make the place work, or does it turn into barely-restrained chaos, just waiting for someone to stamp it out or take over?
I dunno; I know a lot of people straight-up hate school AUs like this, but I'm really fond of the idea.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)It would need a lot of work to make sure that the setting was fleshed out enough for people to app into comfortably, and it probably wouldn't see the light of day until sometime in the new year. But I think it would be a fun game to set up, so!
HORROR AND PUZZLE GAME IDEA
(Anonymous) 2017-12-09 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)- 18+ Horror Game. Younger characters okay but player age must be above that. Puzzle aspects that are intended for the players to solve that will allow characters to proceed. We want to have everything from brain teasers to decoding languages to allow characters to enter new in-game areas.
- Characters will start out in a jail-like building and will need to work together to get out, eventually discovering a city that they can explore and deal with. The city's story, people and the world will be explored during the game's duration, and since we want it to be horror, it will be rather depressing.
- The main 'foe' is a creature that names itself the "Designer", a supernatural being with nearly unlimited power. It considers the characters like lab mice, only there is no science involved, it just has the power to do what it wants.
- Characters will also find out quickly that the Designer was beaten at its own game once, and the artifacts that lead to its defeat are scattered in the world as the Designer cannot destroy them. They are kept behind safeguards and puzzles meant to be unsolvable. Many of these puzzles will be open at the game's start, but some will only be solvable as more clues are given each month. The game's ultimate objective is to defeat the Designer. We plan on having a dedicated puzzle post for players to post solutions or ask questions.
- Expect: Body horror, transformations, mindfucks (for lack of a better word), demon-like possessions, body experiments, alternate realities, battle royales, breaking the 4th wall with horrific consequences, and a few scattered calmer months for breathing room. This is so characters do not become completely desperate in their situation. However, horror is meant to be at the forefront, and we'd take inspiration from both horror classics and more modern ones, including video games.
- Characters are also essentially immortal for the duration of the game, coming back each time they are killed. This will be used in many of the game's events, and each 'death' will feel as horrific as the last. This can also be used to players at their advantage and for certain puzzles.
- Application possibilities; Canon, AUs, OCs, CRAU (we might just stick with canon, but we had played in a few games that allowed all types of applications and had a lot fun.) If we allow AUs and CRAus, we will allow 2 of the same character per canon, one OU and one everything else.
- Characters will keep their powers and gain horror-based ones.
- Players will be able to submit a character application in one of four types; the Original Character (taken from their canon as-is), as Clone (created by the Designer from a copy of the original, but acting independently), a Ghost (having been killed by the Designer and stuck in a limbo having lost memories they were killed), or a Puppet (only a few players will be allowed to do this, but essentially - spies for the Designer and working for him against the players. Not all puppets are aware of what they are, and while not being controlled by the Designer all the time, during some events they may find out what they really are.)
- Since applications will be screened, only the players will know if the character's true type. Players will be able to have their character discover their secret in the game when they wish (or when the Designer feels it is appropriate). For example, clones finding a room with a few of the original characters stuck inside tubes, being tortured. The main idea is for players to trust no one, including each other's characters.
- Members-only Mandatory HMD each month
- We want the Game to last 2 years at maximum, one year at minimum. After playing in a few long-term games and being unsure what to do after a few years, but thinking that murder games are a bit too short, we think around 2 years sounded like a sweet spot before the game becomes too stale while also being good for players and characters to make connections with each other. The game may end sooner if the players finish the puzzles and discover the clues to defeat the Designer.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-10 11:51 am (UTC)(link)Some puzzles will get additional clues to aid players as time runs out. We don't expect all puzzles to be solved, and failure usually results in harsher events in-game (we say usually, as we might set up puzzles where solving purposefully makes things worse for characters. Players would be told this as well). Our primary objective is to make the puzzle aspect facultative for players who just want to play in a horror game and don't mind things getting worse or having a 'bad end' after the game's two years are up. We know players enjoy watching their characters suffer, and that's what we'll be doing as much as possible, while also offering the possibility of letting players defeating a great evil after much suffering. This will give characters a bit of hope so they don't crumble completely, unless you want them to.
For puzzles present in the game itself, our plan to deal with this issue is to have the IC excuse of a smarter character's mind getting clouded by the Designer, blocking their natural abilities to solve it right away.
We've prepared a puzzle example that we'll post on a plurk account later today when more people are up (since it's 3:30am PST currently and we are going to bed) to give you an idea of what to expect.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-10 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)OP
(Anonymous) 2017-12-10 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)Granted this may change if we see players aren't that interested in solving puzzles and slows down the game more than helps it. We wanted to add this aspect to give the players side activities they can do together that can affect the game as a whole without having to force participation.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2017-12-11 08:47 am (UTC)(link)You might want to have something like a system where someone who's solved a puzzle can't "win" on the next one or two. Or that puzzles are only released to limited groups of players. It won't stop any chances of particularly good puzzle solvers from helping their friends but it should help a bit at least.
Re: HORROR AND PUZZLE GAME IDEA
(Anonymous) 2017-12-10 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)I'm wary about doubles, though. I've played in games that allowed it and it turned my popular canon cast into a massive nightmare where it was hard to play with anyone outside it. (I'm also not generally a fan of player AUs interacting with my OU character but whatever floats your boat.)

Re: HORROR AND PUZZLE GAME IDEA
(Anonymous) 2017-12-14 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)However, there are a couple elements I'm curious about:
- A niche question about "puppet" characters: If a Puppet learns their true nature, will there be anything the character can do to change it? As someone who is terrible at puzzle-solving but finds the game design really intriguing, this could possibly be a good fit for me, but I would be concerned about my character becoming unplayable if I ever allowed them to learn they're a Puppet. Conversely, playing out a "heel face turn" of a puppet characters sounds really appealing to me!
- Is there gamespace for people who are uh.... bad...... at puzzle solving? Or would you recommend that people who wouldn't be able to contribute to this area sit this one out? (It's totally fine if so! I think it's great when games can self-select for the playerbase who will be happiest there.)
