Yeah, if you're a Blood Elf you were probably one of the Sunfury and ditched Kael for Illidan somewhere along the way. That's what I'm rolling with anyway.

I don't think they've given much explanation for nelves beyond "You suffered some tragedy at the hands of the Legion and are pissed about it, so you sought out Illidan".

or if you don't want to think about it that hard, you can just be a newbie demon hunter, considering your second class hall recruiter provides you with newly-trained illidari.

from what i remember, you don't even have to have ditched kael- he gives illidan willing recruits during outland, which would be hilarious to play with if you think about it

just wake up after the timeskip like "i wonder what happened to our prince- wait what do you mean he turned evil???"

it's sad to hear they didn't try adding anything in a book or something as to how nelves got into the illidari. it's such an irrelevant detail but it bugs me none the less

isn't there a novel about illidan? i'm pretty sure there is, and if anything explains the nelves' reason for joining the illidari it'd be that.

part of it focuses on a nelf demon hunter named vandel who joined illidan some time after a felhunter killed his son. it really does seem like it's individual personal tragedies for nelves.

i haven't gotten a chance to get the book yet, but i'll have to pick it up sometime

the personal tragedy makes sense, but uh. does it say literally how vandel gets there? ie. when illidan went through to outland the first time, finding his way there otherwise, or after We The Adventurers break our way back into outland? it's dumb but i'm curious

this is directly from the wowpedia article on vandel: "Vandel is a high ranking demon hunter of the Illidari. He was a night elf who lived in Ashenvale, but during the Third War his village was destroyed by the Burning Legion, and his son, Khariel, was torn apart by a felhound. Vandel then killed the felhound with a knife, and encountered Illidan Stormrage when he stumbled out of his house. Believing the Betrayer to be behind the attack, Vandel attacked him, but Illidan easily fended off his attacks and asked the night elf to serve him, impressed that he killed a demon with only a hunting knife. When Vandel refused, Illidan told him to seek him out eventually, if he truly sought vengeance.

Eventually, Vandel did seek out Illidan, finding a way to reach Outland and scaling the walls of the Black Temple. Illidan readily welcomed him into his service, and told him he would find what he sought or die trying."

so after illidan went to outland but before We The Adventurers came along, since the same article details the dark portal being re-opened and the alliance and horde forces marching through later on.
