Man, goes to show different folks and different strokes. I find Last First Snow and Four Roads Cross to be the two weakest, LFS because it takes absolutely forever drawing out events we already knew were going to happen, FRC because the resolution felt incredibly simple and anticlimactic. I also love Caleb and have been hoping we'll return to him like we have Tara and Kai.

lol from what I've seen online, most people either enjoy LFC and disliked TSR or there other way round, so looks like we're well represented here

imo TSR wasn't as interesting, personally, but that's because I disliked Mal more than Caleb being boring. What are your overall rankings of all six books?

I'd also suggest checking out Gladstone's reddit AMA threads (he's done a few);they're fun reads and he goes into more detail about his approach to the series

I don't know if I can rank the rest, I just know I found those to be the weakest. Not bad, just not as good. I wonder if the difference between people who like LFS vs TSR is impacted at all by what order they read them in.

I read them in order of publication, and like LFS a lot - mainly because the thematic focus was of particular pet interest, and I enjoyed Elayne and Temoc's character development greatly

And I'm just a sucker for FRC because Tara and Alt Columb are my favourite protagonist/setting respectively lol

OP back after work, and I, too, read them in order of publication. I don't know that I'd want to read them any other way? I did see that Tor article discussing whether you should, but I almost always find it's best to read things in the order they're written. I don't consider the Magician's Nephew the first Narnia book, y'know? Narratives aren't necessarily supposed to be chronological.

I too love Tara, and that's a factor, but Three Parts Dead... well, you can tell it's the first book. The writing and pacing are a little odd.
