i wanted to love it but good fucking god i couldn't stand ley

but EVERYTHING else was great! i felt it was a lot denser, thematically, than the earlier books and tbh need to re-read to really get the meat of it.

which is your favourite book in the sequence, anon?

Honestly I feel like ruin of angels might be it right now, because he packed so many different threads and concepts in, had a "heist" in the middle, and then it didn't feel anticlimactic in the pay off. it really felt like the most accomplished yet in that regard, and I loved having Kai as a protag again, plus Izza, Tara and I loved the new characters too (though I can see how you'd find Ley annoying).

the pay off was surprisingly good! i honestly didn't think he'd be able to wrap it all up and was pleasantly surprised. and despite finding ley annoying, i thought all the new characters were really well developed (ley included)

have you played the choice of games he wrote? they're set in the same universe as the sequence and pretty fun. i actually got into the books because of the games.

No, I don't play games like that. It doesn't surprise me though, I've been thinking the world build is the sort that would be great for gaming within, like tabletop or even DWRP.

I've picked up some of the other stories he's written or co-written though and I might read them next. I really can't settle on another novel to read since finishing RoA.
