I'm knee-deep in YA fiction right now. Reading the last book of The Maze Runner series and about a quarter of the way into the second book of the Shatter Me series. The Maze Runner seems to be a case of good ideas with shoddy execution. The world building always seems a little vague, characters and their motivations seem to get retconned whenever the author gets a better idea, but the ending was better than I was expecting, and the first prequel had a great twist at the end.
Shatter Me I'm currently on the fence about. The main character makes a lot more sense if she's interpreted as being literally crazy rather than just skittish and traumatized. Her boyfriend is bland Generic Rebel Guy Protagonist #23, much like Gale from The Hunger Games. I much prefer her other contender for love interest if only because he's an interesting bad guy. I do like the strikeouts in the text, since it makes it a bit more interesting to read.
