I'm also glad for the difference, but I can see why people find it jarring. Even though him being openly hostile to Yamato is a stupid headcanon he was still really calm and mellow compared to how the game dialogue made him seem. Maybe I'm misremembering but I recall him being dramatic, vain, and a bit whiny and hotheaded. They remembered the vanity, but his overall even-tempered behavior in the anime wasn't what I was expecting.
