Splattercat for let's plays. He plays a variety of odd and interesting games from turn-based RPG's to first-person shooters to slice-of-life story games, with a slight emphasis towards the sci-fi side of things, and he seeks out new and unusual games to showcase. His sense of humour swerves between crude and erudite, and he's got a fast patter that occasionally surprises a laugh out of me. He takes some getting used to if you're used to bigger names like Markiplier, but I find the biggest draw is that his sense of humour is generally more intelligent, played down a lot of the time.

the profile page says between two to two and a half years and we're past the one year anniversary

we're looking at 9-15 months tops

which isn't a lot of time if our movement allowances keep getting cut

matpat is absolutely the worst kind of "scientist" when it comes to this bullshit, as he applies generalized extrapolation and the fallacy of correlation=causation liberally to the point where it's almost a joke. the dude is good at making stupid, wild, completely impossible shit sound plausible because he talks a big game, but he's basically the IFLScience of game/film theory.

i wouldn't go so far as to say avoid at all costs, but take it all with a grain of salt. he's applying real world physics and math and science to fantastical situations, and in that case, it's not going to make sense. but it is kind of fun to look at and see the pseudo science behind it, if you're into that.

for real-application, i'd say no, but for fun, why not?

if it was really just for fun, that'd be one thing, but matpat and his followers seem to take his conclusions as gospel, and it's frustrating hearing his stuff parroted at cons and parties as if it's actual fact.

ah, well, i haven't seen more than a handful of his vids, so i don't know anything about the fandom/followers aspect of it or what he's like as a person. the ones i've seen have just been sort of fun stupid things (can cap get drunk/cap's shield vs thor's hammer/how to kill deadpool) and trying to apply actual science to those things is just dumb, but it's still fun to speculate.

if he/his followers are taking it seriously? that's dumb.

i had three psls going with a longtime rp partner and a pretty good friend besides, before they took a bit of a break from rp. they told me they would return to our threads at some point in the future.

it's been roughly four months, and though they're back and starting new threads and tagging with other people, they havent tagged any of ours yet. they're still swearing up and down that they want to come back to them after doing canon review for the character. ive also brought up the possibility of picking up new things, but they dont want to start any because of our held-up old ones.

i guess im kind of an idiot for holding my breath, but it really bums me out. even though they keep on telling me theyre going to come back eventually and they've been decently forthcoming about dropping threads in the past, i still get the general feeling that they want to drop our threads - or me as a partner - without actually telling me. it stings, and i cant tell if thats valid or if im getting overinvested.

I remember him putting together a video that claimed that Mario was horribly abusive to Luigi and responsible for all of Luigi's problems.

he also has loz theories that hyrule historia completely debunked but he and his fans still treat as "more plausible" and that canon fact is apparently subject to interpretation.

You can be both correct to feel stung and a little over-invested. People want to stop things at different times from one another, and trying to ask them to keep rolling and/or pick a thread back up when they aren't ready to or don't want to is just going to end in heart-ache. It sucks, but since this is a hobby it's about all you can ask for to have some good times and have enough other RP friends that when one goes like this, you're not left hanging.

if dropping is what they want to do, i'd be fine with that if they would just tell me so, rather then continuously telling me theyre still interested when i ask. it'd suck, but i would get over it. my problem's not so much not getting my threads as it is all the uncertainty

Super Best Friends Play (TheSw1tcher) - the only LPers I watch on a daily basis. They play a wide variety of games, mostly console, including a lot of older ones like classic survival horror. They finish every series they start and also do one-shots of things like fighting games or "Creepy Anime Bullshit." Their LPs of the David Cage "Sadness" Trilogy (now with Omikron prequel) are not to be missed. Best of all, their humor doesn't rely on screaming, swearing, or horrible sexist jokes.

BowlingOtter - another LP group I watch frequently, a husband and wife pair. They do mostly Steam games and a lot of lousy Steam horror games, but they seem like a nice couple and also do reviews of fast food junk food and play non-video games with each other. Their channel is fairly small and they're good about staying humble and grateful to their fans.

I also watch a lot of cooking channels. My favorites:

Cooking with Dog - an older Japanese lady cooks incredibly delicious-looking recipes, narrated by her pet poodle. This show is cute and charming and watching her knife skills is really impressive.

Food Wishes - makes basically everything. Narrated by Chef John, who is an older guy who makes loads of terrible jokes.

Jas. Townshend and Son - channel belonging to a guy who owns a historical re-enactment catalog. Every week he posts videos for recipes found in 18th and early 19th century cookbooks, sometimes even using only the historical implements and ingredients that were available back then.

You Suck at Cooking - more of a comedy show than a cooking show, most of the recipes aren't all that complex, but he does a lot of goofy animation tricks, songs, and other gimmicks in the process. He also has this ongoing dramatic series about a gay egg couple on the run from the law that's turned into some kind of Hannibal kind of parody.

let me give you a summary then:

-theories that are as old as the internet, which wouldn't be a problem if he didn't say HE came up with them

-90% of the time, canon contradicts him. his research is either bad as fuck or he ignores whatever doesn't work for his crazy idea of the week

-he made a "harry potter movie theory" which was an actual fact from the book. again, wouldn't have been a big problem if it had presented as "here are some things from the books you movie watchers don't know" but nope, this is all "his theory"

-this is ymmv but he reaches really far some times. like, too far. i know some fans like crazy theories, even i don't mind some times, but take for example the "rapunzel and anna were exchanged as babies and elsa and punzie are the real siblings" video and it's just... dude, share whatever you're smoking

collegehumor. they're fun sketches! mostly making fun of every day stuff. you have to watch, at leat, "religious nerds".

adam ruins everything was a sketch from collegehumor that got his own show. he makes a comedy sketch but with educational facts, ruining what everyone thinks is common knowledge.

erb aka epic rap battles of history. what it says on the tin: they take two famous people and/or characters and make them rap battle. uses actors with cosplays.

honest trailers - again, what it says on the tin. they make a trailer of a movie with funny, "honest" commentary about it. movie trailers are on the channel screenjunkies, game trailers are on smoshgames

pellekofficial - a great singer imo, makes power metal versions of songs.

postmodernjukebox - a group of musicians that makes covers of songs in different old styles, they're amazing

and +1 to cooking with dog. cutest thing ever and her explanation helps even ME to cook
