rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I'm not super familiar with Dies Irae, but how well-known is it throughout the west? I've seen some hardcore VN fans hype it up, but is the game Clannad levels of insane popularity and devotion or at least as popular as Grisaia?

As cool as Dies Irae looks, I'm a little worried about the KS possibly failing since there's no anime to help spread the word about the game (therefore making it pretty niche) and Kickstarter/IndieGoGo fatigue is already kicking in for a lot of people in the VN fandom at this point.

It's mostly well-known because a few people (mistakenly) hyped it up as super chuuni and other people have called it difficult to read because of some peculiarities in the writer's style, it's a total meme game. For a while if you went on /jp/ for easy recommendations it'd always come up as a troll rec; it's that kind of popularity. I don't know if I'd say it's as popular as either of those, more that hearsay has it a little inflated - it's actually mostly solid, mind, just not for any of those reasons. When it boils down to it I'd call it niche.

There is going to be an anime, but it'll start airing next year at the earliest, so the crowdfunding is sort of weirdly timed...

it's fairly well-known, but the difference is clannad and grisaia already had english releases. dies irae doesn't.
