anyway. thoughts/opinions? for those of you that have watched all of it, what do you think season 2 will bring us?

I'm on the barbwagon, and almost hoped from some sort of pod people situation in which Barb would be able to come back, but it looks like the Duffers said a return for her and Dr. Brenner was unlikely. I wonder though, does it look like Barb was eaten at all? Was the man from the opening scene of the first episode killed in the same way she was, and how about Dr. Brenner's 'son' for that matter? ALSO THERE WAS DEFINITELY AN EGG IN THE UPSIDE DOWN?

I have a theory that the Demogorgon is the manifestation of El's pain and suffering, basic I know, but I don't think there is any doubt they share an intense connection, one that set the events of the show into motion, along with Will's abduction. One piece of evidence, and I accept I might be reading into everything too much, but when Nancy and Jonathan were briefly researching the Demogorgon they compared it to a lion, and in the same episode Eleven is shown clutching a lion plush. I'm watching the show over now looking for any correlation between Eleven using her powers and things happening at Will's house, with the Demogorgon and so on.

I'd love to hear other theories!

I felt the same way. I didn't catch the lion, but the spot that has always stuck in my mind was El outright saying "I'm the monster." It's easy to accept it as a kid's guilt for causing such a huge problem, but I feel like this is a show that loves double meanings. And then the absolute certainty that getting rid of the monster meant she would also disappear was the final straw for me.

i really wish i liked the show more than i did. it has extremely solid storytelling, an amazing atmosphere and great characters, but it just didn't click with me. i'm not sure why. :(

i'm hoping season two will explore the other dimension in more detail. i'd like to see what else lives there, if anything.

This is kind of stupid but. I really get irritated when people insist that Barbara is "obviously" a lesbian. Why exactly? Because she has short hair??? Because she's sassy? Because she's best friends with another girl her age? Even her being upset over Nancy dating Steve is really her just being a friend who is concerned her friend is going to turn into an asshole suddenly. It doesn't automatically equal lesbians.

I don't know - obviously people can ship how they want! But I guess as a lesbian (with long hair, gasp) the stereotyping just kind of grinds my gears. But I am also in the "it sucks she died but I don't care that much" camp, which is likely a very tiny camp, so blergh derp.

i'm really getting sick of seeing everyone treating lesbian barb as canon

i'd love if it she was, but there's nothing to say she's anything other than an awkward kid who has trouble making friends and is scared by how easily nancy is falling in with other people.

are you seriously complaining about a character being declared gay based on spurious evidence in this hobby? really?

personally i'm more pissed at queer journalism sites i follow toting her up as representative of lesbian characters when she... isn't... one

I didn't specifically mention RP, I honestly just wanted to complain about it somewhere LOL

I don't care if people think that's she a lesbian but I will say that I don't really care that she's dead, either? I almost completely forgot that she existed until the end. But I see so many people who want her back on tumblr, makes me wonder if i missed something. all I remember was her getting pissy at Nancy at the party.

So here's where I think part of the plot of season 2 will go. They'll find out that Will's been infected with parasites from the Upside Down and the main plot will focus on finding a cure to his illness. Someone will suggest that they return to the Upside Down in the hope that whatever cure might lie there, when medicine in the real world fails and he keeps getting worse.

Characters will re enter the Upside Down and we'll get to see an expanded ecosystem. I think they have the potential to play around with a lot of different kinds of monsters than we've already seen. The 'Demogorgon' might not even be at the top of the food chain. I think the only reason it was entering into the normal world was because humans and our wildlife are so ridiculously easy to catch and eat/use as incubators.

ok this is driving me nuts!! did anyone else see there being multiple demogorgon's following will in the very first episode? tbh it looked to me like there were three or four sets of eyes in the forest??? but then they all act like there's only one monster through the rest of the season??? seriously i kept expecting another one to pop out while they were dealing with the first, but i guess not. :( missed opportunity.

and as far as next season goes: i'm HOPING this is an anthology series a la american horror story (but i think i might be in the minority there) BUT if they do carry on with the current storyline, i would love to see more of the upside down and way, way less of the the sister and her boyfriends. also, my theory for the upside down is that it's an in-between place where the demigorgon's world and 'our' world have crossed over (thus the library & weird slimey growth mixture), and i hope we get to see more of the upside and the demigorgon's REAL world and maybe the other creatures that live there! it would be so cool, i loved the look of the upside down when we got to see it, and the monster was pretty scary looking too.

also i am glad the romance subplots were pretty minor. did anyone else see a LOT of crystal reed/alison from teen wolf in nancy? it kept distracting me, but tbh i think it made me like her character more than i otherwise would have, oops.

re: Crystal Reed in Nancy, absofuckinglutely. and I agree about it being helpful for her likability because until the pool party I was wondering why the fuck I should care about her when the kids and Winona Ryder were so much more interesting

i had to look up her actress to make sure it wasn't crystal reed lmao

i thought she looked a lot more like emily rossum.
