Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

i'm not one of the anons who contributed to the last thread but I've been stalking it like no tomorrow!!! i'm very excited to hear this and i wish you guys the best of luck.

We're still doing some work on the info files (adding a navigation bar to the bottom), and haven't finished the application page yet, but why not start the weekend right. Could I suggest turning off the custom comment pages, though? It's really dark and hard to read at least IMO.

I love the idea of the game, but there's one little nitpick I have. Is there any way you can change the layout? It's too dark. I also don't like how some of the default/premade layouts show up on mobile.

If you need more help I'll be willing to help out.

dw default layouts are always a bad bet, and idk what's up with your module setting, but it's just really distracting. i'd agree with suggesting or looking for someone who can help you do a custom graphic layout for it. a lot of new games are heading that way and while no one expects perfection, dark default layouts are generally a bad idea.

I'd love some help and suggestions, because in all honesty, the extent of my artistic eye can be summed up as "I like blue." As you see! My coder asked for a layout where there wouldn't be any sidebars as that would mess with the divs, and there are only two options there. I think those are my only restraints.

oh, do you have a coder that's going to put something up for you? because if that's the case, then just let people know it's temporary. but ftr, that particular layout style is bad for a lot of people. all the versions of it are incredibly dark and have that eye-searing quality that make it really hard to look at for a lot of people.

maybe have a sit down chat with whoever's doing your code about what they might want to base it off of? a lot of games seem to take their code from the flexible squares layouts from lj with that carry over code since it seems to be neater and less cluttered than the dw default layouts. ask your coder about that. or, maybe go poke around and see what the new games have as their base? a lot of games use custom coding now, so either just putting up a request or poking around to ask couldn't hurt.

Oh don't get me wrong, it wasn't meant to be temporary, so I don't want to be all 'oh yeah it was meant to be transitional ALL ALONG i swear! C_C' I just have no grasp of popular aesthetics! We're trying out a simplified version that eliminated the modules as well, it seems much cleaner and less cluttered. Take a look and see if that's easier on the eyes. To me it makes little difference, so I don't mind making changes to keep information easy to access and read for the majority. Thanks for the honest feedback! Hope that looks better?

from my perspective? that's a hell of a lot better. black and white or something close to that is always the best way to go. and that's a lot cleaner than it was with the blue.

Do you think you would reconsider changing the AC? Check-ins will only promote squatting.

Also, I think you should also consider about adding bi-monthly smut ac. It's a very common thing that most smut games do and I think it's very sufficient way to keep a smut game active.

Having actual AC is important but I'm tired of smut ACs. Some months you just aren't feeling it, having to force it is shit. I'm glad there's a game without.

The AC will change if the game grows large (50-100+ characters), but for now, we're not sure how big a crowd we should be anticipating. Until the game size necessitates a normal activity check, a check-in is all we'll use, since it might be hard to come up with activity should the game remain small. We'll keep an eye out for squatters and talk with the player personally if it becomes a problem, but for now, we're not anticipating any trouble there.

Rather than smut AC, we're going for the positive reinforcement route with mana points. Links to completed smut threads can be exchanged for mana points, which are used to buy additional powers, abilities, and talents for characters. As the above anon mentioned, sometimes you're just not feeling it, and there might not be any active characters that spark your interest. It's also entirely possible to play the game without making a single smut thread, and we want people to feel comfortable about how often they do or don't play sex scenes. Hope that helps answer your questions, and explain why we chose the route we did.

It gives your prospective player-base confidence when you project your rules (like AC) and FAQ with a clean, firm attitude and rules that make sense in the context of DWRP, you know? More confidence means more test drive, means more apps, means hopefully a more involved playerbase when it comes down to it. How about giving players a clear idea that the first two months will be a check-in only, and going forward you will require X AC; mana-points can be used in addition to AC.

This gives players an idea of what you expect is fair, and I think actually does the opposite of dissuading people. They can more easily determine if they're going to be able to keep up, and are more willing to give it a try when they don't feel something that's such a core mechanic of the game is getting sprung on them.

people will squat with or without ac. they're just sneakier about squatting when you have ac.
