i've never actually traveled outside of my own country (USA) but i think my favorite place i've been to in the US is washington, DC. my family took a four-day vacation there one time and it was just this pleasant haze of museums, spending literally hours in the various smithsonians...

also the national zoo is awesome and arlington cemetery was also an interesting visit although that one might not mean as much if you're not from the US
