Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

your attitude isn't helping, anon. you can just post one of your own. go back and find one you want to play and post it. or ask a meme poster to do it. if you don't like what's available, make something you want be. that's how it works here and crying about the majority popular memes being up there isn't going to win you points. i agree that there's too many memes that are too similar being posted/reposted, or people trying to make something that isn't a thing be a thing, but pick your battles, anon. memes have been complained about to death and it does get really tiring to hear the same complaint over and over. we get it. some people don't like smut/shipping. so do something about it.

i don't really care what tires you out though. i'm sure you've complained about shit i'm damn done with hearing about, too, but i'm not going to tell you to not be pissed about it. wah wah.

it's not what tires me out. it's hearing the same complaint on the comm over and over and over again. i'm not the only person that responded to you. this is an annoyance that multiple people feel. and tbh, i don't generally bring shit here to bitch about that's already been talked about because, hey, it's already been talked about. i'm sorry you're not getting what you want, but shitting all over everyone isn't the way to go. neither is ignoring legit advice to be an inflamed hemorrhoid in your responses. i wasn't rude in my reply, but because you're in a pissy mood at people telling you to simmer down, you're spraying me with it because whatever, we're all the same, right?

i didn't ignore your advice, i just don't really agree with it because i've seen how gen memes that aren't tfln go mostly ignored on bakerstreet. which was why my original comment asked if there was anywhere else to go. instead of getting an answer ("there's this place" or "no sorry it's bakerstreet or nothing" would've been perfectly fine) i got "shut up because we're sick of hearing complaints like this." and that's the most mild response because the others just assumed that my lack of wanting to fist everyone's characters is "poor asexual, gb2tumblr!!!"

because that's sure constructive!

i appreciate your response, but i disagree with it, and like i said; i see complaints about things i don't care about or am sick of seeing, i just ignore them if i can't be constructive instead of telling people to stop complaining?

okay, but maybe the way to phrase it, for future reference, might be something like 'I'm not really jibing with what's on bs, are there any other places to voicetest that don't have such a high concentration of shippy memes?' yeah, it's overly buttkissy to some, but it avoids the idea that 'eww shippy/smut' is why you're commenting.

i get that you got jumped on by people and i can't really excuse that, but all i can do is point out that since you've been gone, there have been multiple huge arguments over smut and gen memes on bakerstreet and they all devolve into this shit flinging bullshit that a lot of us (and i'm not speaking for the whole comm, but the people i personally know) are tired of hearing the same ending to it, which is screaming about asexuals, smut, and everyone's a pervert.

you just happened to unfortunately be the comment that broke the camel's back, so to speak. no, there aren't that many gen memes. i'm a meme poster occasionally myself and i post a mix of memes. most of my gen or not entirely smutty/shippy memes don't get seen to, but there are popular non-ship/smut memes. they just aren't up right now. fell asleep on, rain/snow/(insert weather pattern here), dancing, in my bed (which yes, can BE smutty but has gen options as well). i think most of the straight gen memes fail so hard because they're either trying too hard to be super gen look at me totally not shippy, or they're super niche and are really only applicable for certain mediums/genres/fandoms. i'll stick with what i said before. make your own memes. i have. sometimes they hit, sometimes they miss. sometimes they're super popular once and fail hard the next time. it's the mood of whoever's on and looking at bs. not everyone does. frankly, i'd say fuck popularity. play in what you want to play in. and tag out. half of why bs is dead is because everyone just top levels and fucks off. tag out. if that person doesn't tag back, don't tag them again, but don't stop tagging out. i generally have multiple long (so very long) threads that reach a conclusion because i tag out. yes, i get a lot of dropped threads/no answers, but you just move on. it's memes, man. they're not for really serious play. after having bs halted because of wg wank, people have just been skittish to play and found alternatives (their own museboxes/cliques)

"but it avoids the idea that 'eww shippy/smut' is why you're commenting."

It's funny to me that someone would have to word their questions differently to tippy-toe around chafed asses in a community where people are constantly berated for "needing buttpats." Anon shouldn't have to word their question differently to massage the feelings of people who are only reacting like this because they feel that OP's abstinence from playing smut is also, in some way, implying that OP is judging them for doing so. The original post was not judgmental but stating what they wanted and asking where to find it- anons only got upset because they were feeling judged by OP's innocent question.

I don't agree that OP needs to change their wording, I think other people need to stop assuming someone not wanting to do something they do is automatically a judgment of their behavior.

hey, i said it wasn't exactly fair, but this is an anon comm. most of what happens on here, the judgement, the false accusations and all that are not fair. i gave an example of how to avoid shit like this happening in the future. fine, don't do it if you don't want, but if they want to take that advice, that's up to them. you don't have to agree with it. i don't agree with it happening either, but i also word my crap in a way that expresses what i actually mean since i know 9 times out of 10, someone's liable to take it the wrong way if i'm ambiguous.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's entirely possible that OP felt like they were being clear and not ambiguous.

And I don't think it would matter the manner in which they asked, anon. Anons felted like OP was judging them and so the claws came out. It wouldn't have helped if they asked in a sugary-sweet way. Somebody just wanted to be mean on the internet and so they took offense to the first thing they could clutch pearls over (assumed judgment of their smutty ways) and attacked.

you might be right, but maybe next time someone might ask in a less ambiguous way and we'll see how that goes. i'm not disagreeing that it was an overreaction, but it's one that can be avoided by being more polite/overnice. i'm canadian. this is my default. trust me, i know these things.

Ah, yes. It is your area of expertise, then! I must defer to you.

Hopefully one meme soon this'll happen. I'll be thinking of you if it does, ha!
