Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I haven't done numbers but it feels like we go through mods every four months

We do run through mods pretty fast. I wonder if it has to do with mod burnout or just RL things sucking away what time they had to do mod work.

probably both, i can't imagine how many questions about tiny details and stuff mods have to answer on a regular basis, and how time consuming it is just coming up with event posts, let alone NPC personalities and plots. our mods are really nice and patient and work hard.

that said i've been really dissatisfied with how the NPCs and plotting has gone lately in general, i'm just having a hard time articulating it

i'll figure it out and post to the game HMD when I do

I've been feeling dissatisfied too, but more on the player end of that NPC+Plotting side. I usually am into the plot, but haven't lately because it wasn't fitting for my character (not a techy type) but I've seen so many squandered opportunities by the players who do sign their characters up. It seems like a lot of people just... apply for plot just to keep it and sit on it?

I mean there were like three characters who signed up for plot and then didn't reply to the log? And I also had someone on my timeline receive a plot clue, talk about how they weren't satisfied, refused to take advice, and then did absolutely nothing with it.

I'd put my money on mod burnout if this is something that happens all the time.

I don't think you're the only one. it feels like the NPC show lately, and it's frustrating. I can't tell how much of it is players not wanting to do their own plots and just sitting around waiting for mod plot or npc threads, and how much is the environment that seems to discourage player plots no matter what the mods say

also, players shouldn't have to ask for a bunch of tiny details. mods really need to make it clear players have more free rein to take the load off of themselves, and also give players more freedom (though in my experience, the "new" mods are definitely far more into micro managing than Grim was, and i think that's to the detriment of the game)

hi claudia

Re: TANAGURA

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
surprisingly, more than one player has a similar opinion sometimes.

i agree that people can feel similarly, but the wording was extremely similar to her game hmd reply, and if she's already put her voice out there why repeat yourself ad nauseam (bc at this point it's tiring since she's smeared her negative attitude all over other people's plurks)

Re: TANAGURA

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
fair enough. apologies if that came off more aggressive than I meant it, then. I actually don't have claudia's player on plurk so I don't know what's going on there. not trying to be repetitive more like I do think it's worth discussing

yeah countless times she's tried skewing people's struggle with their character development direction (which is up to the player and the decisions they make in game) to be an issue with the game at large/the mods and not just the player feeling listless.

it's got my jimmies rustled a little since i used to be a mod, and that kind of issue really isn't within a mod's scope of control

I also feel like she's done next to nothing since coming back to the game and hasn't even made an effort to get involved, so that in combination with the behavior anon above me described is what has my booty a little blistered, personally.

she does this in every game she's been in, tbh. complains about the mods, alienates CR and other players, and acts like it's not at least partially her own fault.

usually when people complain that much about the mods and don't tag out or try to change things on their own it's because they're a flake themselves.

another former mod here and seriously 90% of the time this is very true

and very frustrating

drop your modship faster, batty :)

Re: TANAGURA

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
based on event participation when people actually sign up for plot and the fact I SEE people on plurk just squatting on plot bits they get and waiting to be fed more I'd say it's probably mostly because of players sitting on their hands and the mods being forced to push things on their own. though ia they seem more into managing the smaller details

I wouldn't be surprised if the micro managing is a result of something like this:

yeah, that's why I was thinking it's a mixed bag

not sure what can be done to fix that kind of problem though if it's the game culture

(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I recently crit the staff because this was the second month that Eris apologized for being slow which is never a good thing when you're taking it upon yourself to front all the questions both game and plot, and the staff was really receptive... and then that sure happened. I can't say that I am surprised, but I feel as though we can really make progress if we are vocal about what needs to change. I recommended that there is no one "head mod" and that the staff divvies up the responsibilities equally, but I'm not sure if that will work.

Thoughts?

*there should be

(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
why not present this idea in the game hmd and get feedback there?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-29 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I've already presented the idea to the mods under a sock since I didn't want my name tied to my crit.

Talking about it here won't help much.
