Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

How many of you wear sunblock regularly? Daily?

Hard mode: spf in your makeup and moisturizer don't count - it lasts approximately half an hour and to get the protection they quote on the bottle you would have to dip yourself in it.

I don't use it daily, only when I'm gonna be out in the sun for a long time, swimming or working or whatever.

I wear a moisturizing sunblock daily that skincare addiction tells me is good enough to not cause issues, mostly because I use an AHA daily that can cause sun sensitivity issue

I don't want to use an actual sunblock because I find them heavy/pore clogging with really bad white cast

never

i hardly ever am outside for a long time though so i guess it works out

i live in florida, which you would think would incentivize me to wear it every day, but it's fairly easy to stay out of the sun -- stuff like tinted windows are more common here than up north. so i don't unless i know i'll be outside for longer than it takes to get from point a to point b.

I pretty much never wear it. I know you're supposed to for skin cancer or whatever but I don't sunburn even if I'm out for hours and hours and I hate the feel and smell of sunscreens (and lotions on general.)

honestly, an increased skin cancer risk comes from getting sunburned when you're a child, not really when you're an adult. i mean it's not great to get sunburned at any age but getting a burn when you're an adult isn't going to up your chances of getting skin cancer the way getting one when you're a child will. most of the damage is done before age 18.

source: my dermatologist.

...so my grandmother's refusal to put sunscreen on me (extremely fair skin, horrifying skin cancer genetic history) will be almost entirely responsible for my future melanoma and there's nothing i can do about it now? cool

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yes i'm sure what ayrt's dermatologist was really saying was 'nah don't wear anymore sunscreen you're fucked'

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm not sure where you read that

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
my makeup and moisturizer do a pretty good job of protecting me from the sun, though. my face is totally fine even when my neck gets burned.

everyday religiously. I use 50+++ and refresh it usually midday.

I live in Texas and while I work in an office, you don't fuck with the sun.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
never. i can't stand the smell or the greasiness of it. but if i'm going to be outside for more than five minutes, i'll wear a long-sleeved jacket and a hat because i hate having a tan.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't. I have hideously sensitive skin, so wearing sunblock (yes, even the gentle stuff, yes even that one miracle brand) tends to make my skin sore, and gives me a rash if I wear it more than three days in a row at most. I'll wear it if I'm going to be out in the sun for a significant amount of time, or if the UV index is ridiculously high, but otherwise I just try to cover up and minimize skin exposure.

If I'm going to be outside more than about half an hour I will. The spray-on stuff or lotion, whichever's handier. I tend to tan rather than burn but I'd rather not take the risk.
