rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Okay, now I'm legitimately confused.

What has the playerbase done as of late that is so toxic, aside from whine on anon comms? Granted, the peak of this was back in January and February, and it was second hand embarrassing and intense, but I think we can all agree that usually it's a vocal minority.

Yes, there have been issues with the mods, but imo they have already started to improve greatly, aside from a couple of missed announcements, which said vocal minority harped on briefly before getting shut down. And players are always going to have differing opinions on the overarching plot, but there are plenty of other options to play with, and many have gone those routes.

Otherwise, most, if not all unsatisfied, OOCly grating players have dropped or flown under the radar by only bitching on anon comms and not doing anything to stir up trouble. I saw Usagi and Pyra get namedropped somewhere, but as much as I want nothing to do with them, they haven't done anything offensive. Another anon mentioned being harassed by some players, and confirmed those offenders have dropped, too. I can't speak more on it, as I was not involved, but had no idea it was happening.

I've seen some bad shit go down in games. Nothing extreme is happening in Ryslig. Players plot with each other, they still tag newbies despite cries of intro logs being boring, and even when there's an outcry against a plot, said plots still tend to be successful and active. The only exception was the Control of Center plot, which was a hot mess from all sides, players and mods, though the biggest offenders, again, have long dropped.

I've also yet to see this cliquey attitude many point out; 12 out of the 20 most recent posts on the front page are Open posts. Most, if not all, top levels on the last change log are OTA. Nearly all of them had a good chunk of threads going. I can't comment on the Test Drive Meme or the App Workshop, as I rarely touch either of them. Despite Ryslig being a relatively slow game, I have enough trouble keeping up with my in game threads, and I don't trust myself to look over apps unless I am canon familiar.

The only downside to Ryslig I've found is that the anons are far more active than any other game I've been in, and it is lame, but easily avoidable by not engaging them. If something truly toxic is happening, like harassment, I would urge players to bring it to the mods, or at least to other players they trust. And I mean actual issues, like harassment, not someone bitching about something they don't like.

So yeah, genuinely curious to all you anons out there; is the only perception of this toxic attitude coming from anon communities? Communities that are practically made for people to be nasty and vent? I have very rarely seen any good come from them, even RPA, and tend to stay away myself, and I don't want my game to be dragged through the mud just because some people don't know how to communicate properly and color the rest of the playerbase poorly. If there are any legitimate examples of this toxicity I'm unaware of, please speak up, Ryslig anons, or otherwise.

It doesn't need to be anything other than whining on anoncomms to drive people away. The face of your game isn't the game, it's your perception on here and wankgate. This is where people go first to ask about or check out a game, instead of looking at the game, itself. And if it's really active in the anoncomms? Pass.

Mmm, I guess that's where we differ, as I never judge a game based on anon threads.

I'm kind of an oldbie when it comes to RP, and I know anon communities have been around for ages, but never has the community seemed so reliant on them for information and opinions. It's an extremely skewed perception.

But to each their own.

Are we actually at that point as a community where actual in-person behavior in games or on plurk is considered irrelevant compared to their presence on anon comms?

Christ, never thought I'd say this, but I think anon culture HAS hurt DWRP :\
