Trapped in the city of one loo

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

worse yet is that the toxic waste is chasing everyone who isn't on a single-minded crusade against the mods away. i left back in january due to the shitshow reaching ridiculous levels. if they're not frothing over the mods, many of them are unwelcoming to new cr. i'll take bad mods sooner than i will a toxic, insular playerbase. not that the playerbase will ever admit they're cliquish.

i doubt they'll improve. they'll just sit there, wring their hands and go "what can we dooooooooooooooooooo?" while rome burns around them.

dropped recently. wg/rpa threads weren't the main reason but they didn't help either.

it's pretty fucking aggravating to see such a great game concept go swirling down the toilet like this. seriously, i bet if someone made another monster game, interested players who don't want to waste their time on ryslig would flock to it. as i've said, i would.

tbh i feel bad for the sane players who just happen to be caught in the middle of this nonsense.

list of the sane players please

Most of the game. The anons that come here to complain are not as overwhelming as they appear, but they are the voices the public see the most, so. I would like to see anons name any blatantly toxic players with examples of what they have done if they are that obvious and numerous. The only players I can think of have already dropped.

how can we? most of them snipe anon. it's not up to rpers not in your game to repair the damage your playerbase has done to its reputation. the responsibility to find and investigate who those toxic players are and deal with them falls on your mods. if your mods won't do it, then the task falls to the playerbase.

yes, it's unfair to the players in the game who aren't wanky. however, when there's not much positive representation reflecting that outside of player plurks or whatever, it advertises an unattractive gaming environment.

anons coming forward and having calm, civil discussions about the game without flinging mud at each other in every post is a good start. also, anons owning up to the possibility that these problems even exist in the first place is helping your case.

you know the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire"? whether or not it's only a small percentage of the playerbase or not, ryslig has been giving off a lot of smoke for months. as i said, it's up to your mods and your playerbase to put it out, not people without any obligation to your game.

outsider anons are already doing ryslig a favor by speaking up and offering crit at all.

Calm down some, anon. I never said it is anyone's responsibility to fix Ryslig but the playerbase, but simply pointing out how no one can pick out the "sane players" versus the toxic ones going solely by anon threads. It's even difficult for some of the players, especially if they are trying to avoid the drama and solely play their own thing, which is what most of us try to do. Also, how could I know if the anon asking for lists of sane players is in the game or not?

That said, if you are seeing positive representation of the game in player plurks, I count that as a plus. There is not much else to reflect on games aside from the games themselves and anon comms, correct? And looking at the last RPA Ryslig thread, it was rather tame. No comment on the WG thread, however.

I am not saying some points are not valid, and I do not fault anyone for staying clear of the game if they have doubts. Many of the threads here have gotten out of hand. But it is a small percentage of anons yelling loudly on vent communities, and there may be smoke, but it is mostly coming from annoying cigarette butts than an entire forest fire.

It is likely a mistake trying to defend my game anonymously, but I have no way of telling those who are genuinely curious or concerned about the game from those who are here solely hoping it burns. I will say if any other anons are curious, please give it a chance and you will be pleasantly surprised. Is there a vocal, aggravating minority? Absolutely. Are they easy to avoid and have fun regardless? Yes, I promise you.

If it turns out to be too much, there is no shame in dropping, and I am glad games like Halloween Town are popping up to provide alternatives. But Ryslig is no where near the shit show many anons would like people to believe, and I hope the current playerbase, and future players, continue to mold it uphill.

But it sucks to have your entire game dismissed as a toxic waste dump based entirely on anonymous communities when you've found the non-anon OOC atmosphere quite pleasant. But if you mention that aside from anon comms it's pretty good, you get accused of not admitting there's a problem.

I have no doubt there are problem players. Usagi and Pyra play here, ffs. I also have no doubt that it's a pretty loud minority. But, again, it takes place mostly on anon comms: perfectly ignorable spaces that aren't mandatory to game participation. Spaces that the players can do absolutely nothing about. You can say 'it's up to the players' all you want, but the fact is, no one can do anything about the content posted to anon communities. There is simply no way to track who posted them, and I'd find the community far, far more toxic if they started witch-hunting anonymous comments based on speech patterns and word usage or something like that.

It's your free time, and if you don't want to app to a game that has long anon comm threads, that's your choice, but I honestly don't see people barging into an otherwise civil "aw, the test drive is small this time" thread with "no one wants to app to a game this toxic" and then giving advice like "fix your anon threads" or "it's not our problem" to be terribly helpful. "how can we? most of them snipe anon" applies to players in game, too. We simply have no way of knowing who is posting those comments.

A game's anon comm threads do not always reflect the game itself. I'll grant that our mods are definitely watching anon comms and let them affect things, and I can see how that'd be a turn-off. But neither mod nor player can do anything about anon comms except...I dunno, passive-aggressively put the game on hiatus or refuse to tag until anon threads improve? And that'd just bring out the trolls.

I've spoken up here in the past about a situation where I was pretty aggressively harassed by a pair of players. I can confirm that both of them are gone now. One dropped and then the other idled out.

I can't speak for the rest of this mess, but at least a little of it's gone off to graze other pastures.

Whoops - mis-clicked and posted too soon.

I'm sorry for being a disappointment, but if you weren't keeping up when I told my story, there's no obligation to shit on people who aren't even in the game anymore. Wankgate is the comm with the namedrop thread.

halloween town is a monster game

it's just not a body horror game

i might take a closer look at it. the body horror aspect is what interests me most about the premise but it could still be more fun.
