did anyone actually think the inquisitor was going to be the da4 protagonist though? when trespasser came out, bioware said it was the end of the inquisitor's story.

the ending of trespasser even tells you it won't be about the inquisitor. Solas knows them and the companions too well and knows all their secrets. so it has to be people he doesn't know, especially leading.

have you met da fandom? they're still bitching about da2 not being about the warden, and about inquisition not being about the warden or hawke.

there are definitely idiots out there who assumed da4 would be about the inquisitor, and will whine endlessly when it's not.

This. Three games in and Fandom hasn't accepted that this isn't Mass Effect, your Protagonist is not Shepard, the story is not about your sparklypoo perfect Warden(/Hawke). Why the fuck would they get the picture now?

And when DA5 comes out they're going to flip their shit that the Protagonist isn't the Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor/DA4 protagonist again.

This is the song that never ends of fandom idiocy. It will continue as long as we have Dragon Age.

lot of people did because trespasser makes the conflict with solas more personal and they thought it would be anticlimactic for someone who isn't the inquisitor to take him down (which i kinda agree with, otoh i really don't want a shepard 2.0).

some thought bioware was trying to imply a disabled character couldn't be a hero so there was a small tizzy over that. i don't think the inquisitor's fighting days are over, but lbr it'd probably take them years they don't have to learn and adapt to a new fighting style on top of adjusting to life with only one arm (which is something a lot of the fandom glazes over for the sake of a cool robot arm made by dagna) and trying to build an offense against solas.

i definitely expect them to have a presence of some kind in da4 but yeah, their story is done.

i wouldn't say that their story is done, since there are still some plot ends to be wrapped up, but like the warden and hawke they'll appear but won't be playable. i say this mostly because the storylines of characters have carried out through the games, like the warden searching for a blight cure and there's hawke's plot thread from da:i.

but i never expected to play them past their own game because every protagonist of every dragon age game so far starts off as a random nobody.

+1 on the story not being done. they're not dead, so their story will continue. i wasn't hoping for them as the pc in the next game, but i am hoping for some hawke-esque cameo. it would kind of suck if there was nothing because the whole fight with solas hits the inquisitor on a very personal level.

but knowing how bioware is, i'm not holding my breath for more than a passing dialog comment.
