canon-blind anon here, but if he's meant to be from an Arabic-speaking country or named in Arabic tradition, more correct would be Abdul! Arabic language generally doesn't have a "v" letter/sound unless it's being borrowed from another language anyway, so it'd probably get pronounced as a B anyway. (Even the letter for the V-sound isn't a natural inclusion in the modern Arabic alphabet; it gets borrowed from Farsi/Persian).
Even when translators are good for general story, or straight japanese to english, sometimes the people on staff get stumped by words that are phonic representations of foreign words, or fail to realize it is a foreign word, and just make a best-guess effort.
If it's not supposed to be an Arabic name though (like, it's supposed to be made up, the character's an alien, etc), you should probably go with Avdol.
