Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

sorry, anon, not the tittybaby you're looking for. just suffering from it for the moment. it hasn't happened in roughly a year and i'm at a loss on how to deal with it since it's effecting my tag drive and i have important threads to reply to

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
just do it anyway

that's it that's the secret

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
By not having the energy to get worked up about it anymore.

depends on the anxiety. if its about whether my tags are good enough, i remind myself that they've been so far and if my partner drops because of one bad tag, oh well. no one's perfect and i don't need the stress that level of perfectionism brings.

if it's a case of putting someone else at a higher priority than they do me, i try to address the slowness with my partner if i can. if i can't, or i do but it doesn't change, i resign myself to a slower pace and branch out to other partners or fill the time with another hobby. or more often, housework.

if it's a bad situation with an rp partner, i remove myself from the situation until it calms down. if it doesn't, or is a cycle, i remove myself from the partner.

wow i sound so cold-hearted in that comment.

also i forgot to say: if its feeling that i have a bad grasp of the character, i take the time to canon review, listen to music or consume other media that evokes my original take on the character, maybe read some meta.

is it all about the writing? i sometimes hit creative slumps where i feel like everything i write sucks, including my tags. i don't have a foolproof cure, but it can help to read books by authors i like. sometimes putting all writing aside for a few days works. and idk other times i just have to ride it out.

if it's about tagging in general... most of us realize that nobody's perfect and rl comes first, but if that kind of anxiety gets the better of you we can't read your mind and know that you really do want to rp. dropped threads and radio silence are a pretty good way to say you're not into it, so i wouldn't suggest that if you like your threads. rp = tags. maybe some canon review could be inspiring enough to shake it.

I really started to focus on the behaviour of the other RPers around me who seemed like they had their shit figured out, and learned their etiquette over slow threads, dropping threads, dropping a game, talking about ships, etc.

I also tested my limits for how many threads I could handle between the two points of being over-invested and having too much on my plate. Over time the ability to tag out more without worrying about the influx of tags has stretched a little, and I have learned how to talk about when a thread isn't going anywhere, or when I'm not feeling something, in order to drop it.

Weirdly, I still find myself getting a little anxious around when threads are winding down, but I find that talking to the other RPer and seeing what they'd like to do next, what they're excited about for their character and what else their character has been up to... all of that helps to buoy me back up again.
