Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

It happens. And honestly? I don't see a problem with it. Or rather, I don't see a problem with the idea of people not wanting to tag certain character types.

If someone doesnt' want to tag animes, or comic book character, or LA characters, or whatever, then that's their prerogative. More than that, games are always going to lean one way or the other in terms of demographics and what 'side' of the medium divide dominates the game. It's just how things tend to pan out. If a game gets a big, iunno, game of throens cast, than people interested in game of thrones will look into the game. Since GoT is a LA canon, most of them probably are LA players. Because, let's face it, not that many people play from both LA and anime, at least not in the same game. And if they do, it's usually more of an exception. The LA player with a Spike Spiegel account, or an anime player with a couple of LOTR characters. That sort of thing.

I think the problem comes in not from these divides existing, but from these divides not really being properly communicated. There's been so many dumb slap fights about these things that nobody wants to be the person saying 'yeah, I don't want to tag anime characters, generally.' As this thread shows, people tend to get angry about that even if you're just expressing a preference.

I honestly think the proper solution would be more canon-type exclusive games. That way, when a game is a free-for-all, you understand that you'll be playing with every canon type, and if you don't like that, you can go to one of the games that excludes characters you don't want to play with. A lot of frustration of people trying to LCW it and being shut off because nobody wants to play with them would be prevented.

Except anytime someone mentions making/wanting/idly thinking of a game that's western-only or la only, anime fans shit the bed. There were calls for the op to kill themselves because they might not have included drawn characters in their game. That shit's not okay and embarrasses me as an anime fan.

But make a game anime or drawn characters only or have it get that way via certain anime players squeezing out everyone else (ink city, hh, inugami, etc) and "lol pissbaby la players"

dude, I've said in this thread that I'd be totally fine with LA players not wanting to play with anime characters in any capacity. The idea of a LA player looking at a game with 6+ anime characters and going 'not for me' is totally reasonable to me and I'd support that hypothetical person's decision.

yeah, lots of anime players say that, but their behavior ends up telling a different story

okay do you actually have proof that inugami and hollyheights "squeezed out" la players or is this just the imaginary hill you decided to die on.
