I get the impression that Blue Diamond was responsible for the diplomatic attempts to resolve the rebellion before the gem war really started. Seems more like Yellow Diamond was responsible for the later experimentation that led to the cluster. Could be that the timeline was drawn out enough that by that point Rose Quartz and co. were whittled down to hunting and bubbling monster gems as we see at the beginning of the series.

Gonna go full-on nerd mode here.

The Answer brought up that Gems have courts, but when Lapis sent her warning to Steven in season 1, she said that when she got to home world it was "different." I get the feeling that, just form the way Jasper and Peridot talked about her, Yellow Diamond might hold more power than the other Diamonds at this point. Then again, it could just be that Peridot and Jasper are part of Yellow Diamond's court.

Also, Peridot referred to the Diamonds as the Gem Matriarchs. Gems ID as female confirmed?

yeah that's a really good thing to point out, since Lapis hasn't been on homeworld as long as the crystal gems. the other matriarchs still exist by way of Peridot identifying them, but a shift in power balance would be a huge change. though i wonder if Rose is actually a matriarch now like previously believed - the diamonds seem to be very large in stature and while Rose is tall she doesn't seem as daunting as Blue Diamond looked in Answer.

plus Jasper didn't seem very phased about fusing with Lapis for a power boost, despite them definitely being in different courts, so the very concept that gems only fuse within their own type may be different now (though it clearly requires more effort on the part of the gems to keep it stable.)

rose is a quartz (like jasper), she's in a lower caste than the diamonds but probably still above most other gems

peridot mentions that amethyst (also a quartz) is in a higher caste than garnet and pearl and even peridot herself

We assume she's quartz, but her gem looks more like a pink diamond than a rose quartz. Look 'em up. Rose quartz is more a smokey thing, and I think would look more akin to a Pearl's gem coloration-wise. As well, Steven was able to use his gem to activate things explicitly marked with the four diamond symbol.

the rose quartz/pink diamond theory always rustled my jimmies a touch because isn't there different shades and translucencies of rose quartz? it's not unheard of for rose quartz to have a solid, rose red color.

also, spoilers ahead, in the new episode wasn't peridot using one of those four diamond things as well?

A quick google search shows that, no, there is NOT a redder color of rose quartz. It's a paleish, milky pink, and even if it's diamond cut it's kind of. Smokey and pale. Not as dark as Rose's gem in SU. The only time i'm getting anything as dark and reddish is pink diamonds.

try looking up RED rose quartz, anon. it does exist, it's just more rare. i searched it up into google and got a few good results in just the first four pages.

Okay but I personally don't see how that would look like Rose's gem, given it's shown to be more in-line coloring-wise to Amethyst's and Garnets.

a show made mostly for ladychildren women has as its cast one fat boy and then a bunch of anthropomorphic gemstones

yeah after these past few episodes idt rose was pink diamond but i am kind of into the theory that diamonds are fusions and rose was part of one.

like comparing her design to blue and yellow diamond's she doesn't really match up, plus she's not nearly as big as them (assuming all of the diamonds are big like blue diamond).

they are definitely tip-toeing around pink diamond, though. all you saw of her mural was her legs i think.

At the same time, I've wondered if it's possible that Rose's build was consciously altered. And none of the gem structures we've seen would be able to really accommodate any of the Diamonds aside from maybe the moon base, so they might be able to size change.

I saw someone theorize that Rose might be PART of a matriarch. Like, what if the Matriarchs are actually fusions of many of one type of Gem to account for why they're so large.

Agreed about the concept of gems fusing with different gems. Maybe after Garnet fused they decided to experiment with it and, finding that fusions of different were stronger than single gems, started doing the artificial fusions of broken gems to possibly use them as tools of war. Also, if Yellow Diamond did rise to power, maybe that's what lead to the advancement of Gem technology.

On a different but Lapis-related note, I'm wondering if we'll get backstory on what she was doing on Earth in the first place since I've heard she's in the next episode. I think it's safe to say she participated in the Gem Rebellion we just don't know why. It clearly wasn't for the sake of Earth since she says "I never believed in this planet."

But Diamonds wouldn't be able to fit inside most of the Gem Structures we've, including the Sea Spire. So either they can consciously size shift as they please or they never intended to ever show up at most of the structures we have seen.

amethyst's form wasn't stable because a big, bulky gem wasn't really who she wanted to be

if rose really wanted to match the stature of "lesser" gems, it stands to reason that she could do that much more easily

especially if she's a diamond, because the diamonds must be much more powerful and adept with gem magic than anyone else

Also not that SU follow tons of scientific logic, but becoming smaller and more dense being easier then getting bigger makes sense.

According to Peridot, Amethyst's small form is not just about being who she wants to be; she was also much later to emerge and lower down than most of the gems that came out of the kindergarten. Even the hole that she emerged from was smaller. Jasper could tell at a glance that she was 'overbaked'.

She's not a good comparison for Rose possibly taking a smaller form. I think if we're looking for clues about Rose possibly being a diamond and not a quartz, we should turn to her demonstrated behaviours, rather than necessarily the gems around her. Rose had an intense interest in the world around her, specifically in life. Many of the things we see with her interest in life tended to take over, for example the flowery moss and her garden of tears. The way that she interacted with Greg was more of a hobby, until she got serious about understanding what being in a relationship meant. At that point she flipped gears and went so far as to do what no other gem has tried to do: procreate with an alien in order to completely understand the lifecycle she was interacting with. (I think we see this carried over in Steven during his birthday episodes when he gets especially wibbly about his age.)

If Rose is not actually Rose Diamond but taken on the Quartz title to describe her status as warrior for the planet's life, then she is probably at the very least one of Rose Diamond's honoured subjects. Given that the Diamonds' each have courts, it could be guessed that Pink Diamond's court probably held a lot of fascination for some of the things that Rose Quartz valued, but maybe transformed to meet Homeworld expectations. We know there are probably four diamonds: blue, yellow, white and pink, and it's probably likely that before coming to earth Rose and Pearl were not in Blue or Yellow's court, so even if Rose Quartz is what her name says on the tin, she's probably not far off from Pink Diamond's wheelhouse in any case.
