Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

There are plenty of big fandoms. For whatever reason though, they don't take off here as much as they do on other sites. Probably because we've got a smaller userbase and a wide variety of different mediums.

what ayrt means it's not big as in fan amount, it's big as in big casts. the only one that applies now is MCU and star wars if it survives the fad phase. before we had HP, bleach, naruto, homestuck, and their canon games and DRs worked pretty well. small casts games have been tried and they died quickly because it may as well be a psl.

ty anon. that is exactly what i meant!

rpers don't really stick with one thing anymore, it's always the next new thing!!!!11! so any single fandom games would bloat and then die within a month or two. staying power for characters/canons seems like too much commitment at times for the average dwrper.

There's a bit of a spiral of doom going on for fad fandoms: people lose interest and move on to the next thing, and friends sometimes feel pressured to keep up. They burn out more quickly on the next thing, rinse and repeat.

There's also a mild prejudice against playing from older canons, though it isn't pervasive.

is there? i've never really noticed one for playing in older canons. not saying there isn't, but what the hell? that's really stupid.

Nearly all of my characters are from older canons, and I haven't noticed any kind of stigma or prejudice over it. You get a bunch of tags when you're playing the new shiny, though, and the number of people who recognize older stuff is lower unless it's something iconic.

So really, it's like playing any other less-popular canon.

sometimes you get labeled a soulbounder if you play a favorite character for years.

most of the time it's not as noticeable. It's more likely that people who trend towards fad fandoms won't tag as often or as reliably with you, but that's the same for obscure or made up characters.

sometimes it can reach being labeled as soul-bonder but usually that's done by idiots on anon comms who misuse the word regularly.
