Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

interesting thoughts, and thank you! i was actually still thinking about the pregnancy thing myself -- you're right that it's divisive, but i don't really know if any current sex games even allow pregnancies, so that could be a niche that needs filling. if i did allow it, it would be after a certain amount of time in game, for sure. maybe like, the dimensional travel is traumatic in some way so it takes your body and...spirit some time to be able to create life? like it's kinda spiritually traumatic? that would require some more thought. alternatively, maybe the natives are given a kind of natural birth control in that you have to pray to the gods to make you fertile ("opening the gates of your womb"/"allowing your seed to be planted") and it applies to the new people and they're not taught the ritual to have babies until they've been around for awhile. that actually even works as a reason for why natives have kids and players can't, if i decide no pregnancies.

the culture is definitely casual about sex, but that actually doesn't really jive in my mind with just sectioning off spaces? because to me that implies that sex is a thing to be hidden and that seems to conflict with it being, like, the basis of a religion, so i'd rather err on the side of kids being shut away than the reverse. but if i go this way adults can go visit the kids anytime (since i don't want there to be any question of "is there some kind of baby sacrifice curveball coming" so i've definitely thrown out the original idea). it would be a third town on the island where the few chaperone adults (these people are probably mostly celibate) live with all the children under 18, and family can always go visit but it's kind of weird to go there if you're not working with the kids or visiting your child or neice/nephew or grandchild or whatever.

with my plan to have all events easy to opt out of, i don't think i'd run into too much trouble with having to devise ways for the kids to be out of the way, especially if they're already sort of Over There. this could also make for an interesting barrier/twist on it if you want to do a kid plot: if you do, you're going to either not be with them 24/7 or be living apart from the rest of society for a bit (probably you can live with a new baby in the kid village until they're 6 months or a year or something).

I dont think closing a bedroom door so my roommate doesn't see me shag is hiding it or having a pub be over 18/21 to get in is hiding beer and booze any more than the concept of sex spaces would be culturally? Boundaries do not have to equals shame and hiding things at all.

Sending kids away super young sounds extremely beyond the pale of separating kids from families permanently and making them separate like at boarding schools or something? Visiting is not the same as being able to bond as families no matter how you dice it. Culturally if you go that route, the natives would have no concept of regular family units the way the majority of characters that arrive will.

Also, Amat allows or used allow pregnancies but the kids are taken away after age one or something very young to be raised on a kid island with the native kids. Sending the kids away is a plot point of angst and heartbreak for parent characters in that game.

i had a long response to this typed up but it was a lot of waffling and it boils down to, this issue is really complicated and idk what i'll do with it yet, but thank you for your thoughts! idk if the "they don't think of families as we do" thing would have occurred to me otherwise, honestly, so this was really valuable.
