I've been waiting weeks for a test meme to go up.

Get home, look around, and just half an hour before I have a chance to post? Someone else popped up with that exact rare character. I'm feeling unlucky.

This happened to me recently, uncommon character and all. And the TDM is so small it'll just be awkward if I post the same character. I'm sorry, anon, it sucks so much.

to both of you: post anyway. goddamn. i want to smack both of you upside the back of the head. is it only okay to post a duplicate if it's a super popular character? or if the meme is huge? no. it's a tdm. you have just as much of a right to try to play in that game as the other version until one of you wins out the spot.

Eh, I'd feel weird about it. My only complaint was that it was such a coincidence someone else would want to play a character that I haven't seen anywhere.

I'll check back when reserves open. If they're not serious about it, I might post belatedly. It looks like the TDMs stay active for a while.

if they seem waffly about it just pm them. i've done that before. as long as you make it clear you're not ~trying to highlander~ or push them out they're very likely to understand. i had someone let me take the character because they weren't sure about playing them, no drama came of it.

i'm neither of those anons but as someone who's been in that position, it's easier to say that than... do it. idk. it seems a little dickish and awkward no matter what your intentions are. you don't need to repeat "nobody owns a character" or anything because we're all aware of that. it just seems like an etiquette thing, mostly for uncommon characters.

which is a bullshit excuse, sorry to say. a tdm is not a placeholder. that's what a reserve is for. this argument's been had to death. let's say four lokis tag in on the tdm. who gets to reserve? what about the people that don't even bother with tdms and just reserve because the spot's open? reserves/apps are the only things people should concern themselves with. you're basically deciding not to bother reserving/apping/playing in a game with a character you like because someone else showed interest. they didn't get in. they don't have the spot. they could be absolute shit and get rejected, but you'll never know because you won't even bother.

tbh, if people are going to be that way about a stupid meme, they don't deserve a spot in the game. apps are competitive. you have to pay to play. "well, i don't want to waste my time..." well, then you obviously didn't really want to play that badly, did you?

second of all, you're not going to change my mind on this. i'd feel rude if i showed up with my rare character on a tdm when someone else is playing them. deal with it. having a "competitive" attitude about internet rp is fucking stupid and you're the type of person i like to avoid in this hobby.

i never implied loki was a rare character. that was part of the 'if they're popular' example.

it's not about fighting to get in, but it's about showing more than a passing interesting. if someone else going 'ooh' over something you want is enough to have you deciding against it, you obviously don't want it enough. that's not a good/bad thing, but it's a fact. if i were to play in a tdm, i wouldn't care if there was another version in there. it's a meme. it's to see if i want to even try to play in that setting. if i didn't even bother looking at the tdm, i don't want to deal with people bitching that i 'reserve sniped' because i happened to get a reserve in before whoever was playing on the tdm, like i butted in line. i see it way too much on here and it's part of why i get annoyed at the tdm mindset lately. playing or not playing on the tdm isn't a sign of commitment. there are plenty of people that have admitted that they just play on the tdm to play with their friends with no desire to app in. but how are people passing by supposed to know? then you get this thing, where someone isn't apping but just wants to goof around and someone else thinks 'ooh, someone else wants it', doesn't bother reserving/apping, and no one gets that char spot because everyone's too afraid of their own shadow.

similar things have happened to me. i was refreshing on canon for a character i hadn't seen in any game for years, was about to app them into a game, and literally the same app round i was considering, they come in. this wasn't even a new/popular game, and i hadn't even discussed my plans with anyone so it wasn't like someone was being a bitch and sniping it.
