Okay so I will say though, my one biggest hesitation about letting myself love it enough to gush to everyone and their brother before I see how the first season wraps? (Especially since the second season got picked up so there's less need to get viewing numbers up to avoid a premature cancellation.) I am definitely hyped on it so far but! I am leery of the text that accompanies the previews for upcoming episodes online and the trailers, since we dont automatically get them in a commercial. We were assuming its some plot by the Belters or what have you but the whole "a threat to ALL humanity" does make me side eye just a bit. And I do know we saw the Martian gal in episode one see the dude screaming in the freaky blue ball in the Scopulis core reactor so the door to WTF has been cracked open from day one.
I just hope it doesnt jump the shark I guess with whatever that angle of the content is? Since so far everything is hard science, political intrigue, and gritty drama. Like how X-Files always had aliens and all kinds of nonsense but the main characters, and even support like Skinner and the Lone Gunmen, were still normal. They investigated or became abnormal or whatever. But then you got a main character the last season or so who was psychic or saw ghosts or whatever and that felt just so put on and over the top in spite of the X-Files always having had that content?
Thats first show I can think of that felt like it had a concept in the wings all the time but when it became front and center in a bad way it killed enjoyment for me but I am sure there are other, better comparisons. I cant completely articulate my worry here but I guess its just. SyFy this show is so solid and usually a first season takes time to get momentum and this didnt need that time so kudos. But dont take that win and ruin a good thing.
SA - Spoilers in this one.
