rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

So, I pretty much binged the entire show over the holiday season and got an Alex muse. Does anyone else play from this? Or, at the very least, cross-canon shenanigans are fine. Like the muse himself, I'm always a slut for smut, whoops.

The Anon above me is right, just get over yourself and own that shit. Look up etiquette rules of the day, the chivalric code and some stuff on courtly love and go to town. I play a lot of period characters who still pull things like that, it's fun for their expectations of social niceties to run up against other people's.

How do you handle someone who has to be right about everything and always "corrects" you, assuming you still want to maintain a friendship with them?

For instance I'll be talking on plurk about a scene from canon and how it relates to something I want to RP, and they'll "correct" me on something minor about the scene that may not even be entirely relevant to the discussion. I don't think they intend to behave so condescendingly but that's exactly how it feels, like they're trying to show how much more knowledgeable than me they are or embarrass me in front of others. If I thought they were doing this maliciously I just wouldn't talk to them anymore, but it really seems to be a case of not understanding social cues.

privately point it out to them. just be like 'look, i can understand that you're trying to point out mistakes, but unless i ask you for it, i'd appreciate if you didn't.' let them know that you don't feel all that great about being talked down to.

probably a bad move to have the TDM so far out from the first advertisement. they should have just run with it quickly.

This happened to me recently, uncommon character and all. And the TDM is so small it'll just be awkward if I post the same character. I'm sorry, anon, it sucks so much.

They also pitched a fit over Mangagamer saying that NTY could appeal to gay men when they were advertising it and complained about how women can't get anything to themselves. They also got into a argument with Good Haro over it.

while, to my knowledge, gay/bi men in the west are a pretty underrepresented crowd when it comes to visual novels outside of some fan translation stuff (main reason why coming out on top was so successful) and they definitely do deserve having more games that appeal to them

i can understand not wanting companies to go "i don't think picking up a game targeted towards women will sell unless it can appeal to this other audience too!" when licensing bl games and otoge because that normally doesn't go as well as people think

though tbf in nty's case, i think mangagamer did get localization requests for it from bl fans and the translator is a huge fan of the game so it's not like the choice to pick it up was out of the blue. it's just that nty happened to appeal to a crowd (gay/bi men) beyond its target audience (straight/bi women).

similar things have happened to me. i was refreshing on canon for a character i hadn't seen in any game for years, was about to app them into a game, and literally the same app round i was considering, they come in. this wasn't even a new/popular game, and i hadn't even discussed my plans with anyone so it wasn't like someone was being a bitch and sniping it.

why? it wasn't really the game advertisement as much as a sort of interest gain. besides, i think i'd rather they make sure they've dotted their is and crossed their ts before putting down solid dates for game stuff. if they had the tdm earlier, people would be complaining that reserves were too far away. last post had them trying to nail down ages/suitability, so that's sort of something you want to know ahead of time if you can even app.

i know, i know, tldr overinvested yadda. i just like the premise and hope it does well.

to both of you: post anyway. goddamn. i want to smack both of you upside the back of the head. is it only okay to post a duplicate if it's a super popular character? or if the meme is huge? no. it's a tdm. you have just as much of a right to try to play in that game as the other version until one of you wins out the spot.

goddamn people.

i don't think waiting was necessarily a bad idea if the game had gained more traction in between. doesn't really seem that way though, sadly.
