rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

cause if you notice there has been little to no marketing for it compared to everything else.

here's a good example, Big Hero 6 which earned much more then twice it budget is still selling it's DVD's for 23 dollars at best buy, which means new discs are being being made and sent out. Annie 2014 however is only selling for 15 dollars at best buy, which indicts they are making discs for it in batches now.

Said DVD's were released a month from each other. One is still making money while the other flopped and is dead.

Annie was a good movie but it's basically this decade's Avatar, in a few years you won't be able to name more then two actors/actresses in it and maybe a line or two.

or better yet just tag one of the like two dozen threads they owe on so you could work up a little interest for the 2-3 you owe them on

one is a major marvel/disney animated franchise with all of disney's marketing power behind it and the other isn't. it's an apples and oranges case.

plus BH6 was also a racially diverse cast, with characters that were previously uniracial changed so that more faces could be represented, so isn't its success more proof that that this shit matters and works?

People are gonna remember the lines, songs, and who was in it, regardless of its success.

fact is, it was successful. it was not as successful as major hollywood blockbusters but it was never going to be and was never intended to be. even in the golden age of hollywood, musicals were not making the kind of money our modern blockbusters do.

you're using the absolute highest standard of success as the only standard and using it to justify completely backwards reactionary bullshit. plebcomics has a clear politica agenda, so does everyone who is trying to sell this idea that Annie was a failure/flop. It doesn't take into account what is actually considered a success in the film world, it's just using the fact it wasn't as popular as the MOST popular films of its time as an excuse to point and say "SEE? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RACEBEND TO APPEASE THE PC CROWD". and you're buying into it.

i've been seeing a lot of unrest on tumblr lately that's very reminiscent of the first murmurings of the lj exodus. why don't we, the rp community, take the initiative and start building fandom here again?

I think this would be a good thing, but how would we go about doing that?

be the change we want to see! start making personal journals and fandom communities again and actually using them. be active in them. tell people on tumblr. convince those people to come, too.

that's how the exodus from lj to dw happened on the rp front. enough people made the switch and then passed around posts with all the pros and cons of moving to dw, and the people who moved stood their ground and stayed here so that no one could say "well it's not really active over there..."

we can do it with fandom as a whole!! we just have to not be lazy.

but a lot of people on tumblr want to move, they just don't know where to go. people keep saying "back to livejournal" but that's a disaster and a half. and then they're like "well there's dreamwidth but there's like no fandom activity there." if we just start using dw for fandom and tell people that it's finally being used for fandom, they'll come.

They want to go somewhere similar in structure to Tumblr is the problem.

if that was the case, then "what about back to livejournal?" wouldn't be a question that's so frequently asked.
