Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

The group of scintillating individuals are happy to ignore you until you start making a scene, playing the role of street magician and promising them a great spectacle. Of course, the spectacle ends with their purses cut and in your hands, while you make an ungodly fast escape to a nearby roof top.

Sucks to be them!

What do you do with the money?

> give it to orphans
> buy a pie
> get the first coach out of town
> go out drinking

shit, my bad

WELL then I agree, yeah, but I still maintain that the percentage of people who are overweight whose status can be traced to medical disorders of some kind, either genetic or otherwise, is still pretty small compared to the number of people who are just plain fat and unwilling to change their sedentary lifestyles.

like, that was me. that was my dad and mom. we were just fat. we had no medical predisposition to it, we just didn't move around enough (and in my dad's case, ate like a garbage dump). once we all made a promise to ourselves to get right, we started getting, and more importantly FEELING, healthier

idk, maybe I'm just using anecdotal experiences to color my bias, but I'm just less likely to believe someone's self-diagnosis of medical issues.

You finish with one more show of what you can do, hips swaying to the scandal and delight of the crowd. Your fire extends to the sky in one last exultant blaze. For a moment, night is day.

And then it's over, and the crowd returns home.

Later, as you're saying your goodbyes to the other performers, a stranger approaches you. What to do you?

> see what he wants
> walk away
> threaten to blast him with fire
> actually blast him with fire

You slowly turn around and --

...

Your old friend, Mustache Matthias, has you caught in a giant bear hug! You feel your joints cracking before he lets you down.

What do you do next?

> offer to buy him a drink
> ask if you can work his next job with him
> suggest something more private
> shoot first

You start to talk about how you felt your heart stop when all three dancers playing Milkmaids shimmered and coalesced into one -- stage magic was truly impressive! -- when, suddenly, the heir to Northlandia is reaching for your hand!

What do you do?

> let them take your hand
> politely demur
> tell them they can have that and more
> shout for the guard

"--whose status can be traced to medical disorders.." and therein lies the problem that i'm trying to point out. we still don't really know why people are as obese as they are. i'm willing to bet a healthy percent is as simple as birth control. others might have medications that prohibit proper digestion.

not arguing that there are plenty of people that just don't want to get off their asses, because that likely makes up a pretty hefty percent as well, but i also know from experience that trying to lose weight and having zero payout after a year is just demeaning and you lose the ability to give a fuck.

for those that can manage to pull it off, i wish them well. for those that are undiagnosed and fat without knowing why, it can be really, really difficult. especially when medical professions are giving you that look like this is all your fault for eating unhealthy and shoveling food into your face when you're counting calories and eating going to bed hungry to try to lose weight but it's just not working. (note: because i'm going to reiterate this since someone will bring it up, this does not apply to everyone overweight. this doesn't even apply to half. but it does apply to a goodly number and it can just devastate you when everyone's telling you it's your fault and you're doing something wrong and you're not.)

there's a lot more excuses than there are medical issues. are there some people with issues? sure, but there are a ton more who do "muh thyroid, muh metabolism, muh galbladder, muh pcos" strawgrabbing. everyone wants something to be wrong with them so they have a ~reason, but the fact is, most people don't have that reason. it's just an unwillingness to wake the fuck up and make a change.

You bring her back to your chapel, offering her one of the beds in the back. While showing her where she can brush her teeth, you don't hesitate to fill her arms with pamphlets on the love and generosity of Karnakagauchlu.

> Tell her that it's never too early for her young one to accept Karnakagauchlu
> Tell her that one day Karnakagauchlu will appear to his prophet
> Tell her how Karnakagauchlu saved you from a life of hedonism and shallowness
> Tell her that stew will be ready in twenty minutes

Your keen, Mako-enhanced senses tell you that Genesis is not here! You get sad, thinking about his beautiful hair or that time he started talking about LOVELESS and then apparently never stopped.

You decide to:

> go to his apartment and look for him
> go fight some monsters as a distraction
> push some not-SOLDIERs out of your way
> wash your hair

Assuming you're the one fielding Ringabel, I can offer a Tiz.

well, on the not being able to lose weight after a year thing, if it makes you feel any better, I haven't actually lost much. in fact, I started gaining at some point, an it took awhile for me to realize that was because of my body's changing mass.

like, I'm still big. still "fat". but I can go a long walk, or up some stairs, without getting winded, and I can do the lifting at work without needing a break. idk, it's little things like that which make me so much happier than a read-out on a scale.

agreeing with the above anon that in most canons (or when making an OC) there are cultural and behavioural, maybe even biological, things that will distinguish their reaction from a human one. those are important to pay attention to if the character employs them, and can be a lot of fun.

with that said, if your character is the type to learn and pick up on that kind of thing over time, let them. being an alien doesn't mean they're blind to others around them, and people tend to subconsciously pick up on stuff other people do, even if they don't mean to actively copy.

So I play Sinjir Rath Velus, from the novel Aftermath, after Return of the Jedi. And I would love to play off of pretty much anyone.

Sinjir is an Imperial loyalty officer - so basically military secret police cracking down on dissension in the Imperial ranks. I can AU him to be a First Order psytech or officer. He also defects from the Empire after Endor, eventually finding himself caught up in an adventure to rescue Wedge Antilles. So he can also be working for the Rebellion (or the Resistance).

I'm up for either time period, AUs, whatever, Sinjir getting somehow transported to the future (frozen in carbonite??), all kinds of things. Sinjir is cynical, a badass, and a bit of a drunk, and a very talented torturer. Shippy things? Absolutely, though Sinjir is canonically gay, and not into the ladies. Plotty? I'm so into it.

Mostly I'm sending out feelers to see if anyone would be interested in threading off of a loyalty officer or ex-loyalty officer.

You catch the first coach out of town, and even pay extra to be the only passenger! As the village fades away, you think about how you would kick every orphan in the face if you could and start cackling. The coach driver somehow resists giving you weird looks.

Eventually, he reaches the next town. You:

> get out and check the town out
> decide to head toward the border and flee the country
> get out, but head into the spooky forest instead

sa

After the fifth hour of Karnakagauchlu gospel, the young woman looks very bleary eyed and asks if she can go to bed.

You:

> yes and you apologize for keeping her for so long
> say just one minute, we're almost at the best part...
> throw down some religious guilt

Think things through and just have fun with it tbh. I love playing non-humans because it's so interesting to me to explore the ways things can work totally differently from what we humans take for granted every day. If your character is very different from humans physically, think about what daily life is like for them, especially among humans in a place designed for humans. And the unusual responses to things like the anon above is talking about can really shake things up.

At the same time, part of exploring the differences is finding the similarities and having fun with that too. They should still be a complete and nuanced person, relatable on some level even if their ways of thinking are somewhat alien. You don't want a one-note character who does nothing but show off how exotic they are; think stuff out for yourself, but just address it in threads when it comes up organically. (Playing off your character's unique properties is a fantastic source of posts/toplevels/prompt responses, but if it's all you do it'll still get stale.) Likewise don't overdo the alien responses and thinking just for the sake of being different, make sure it's actually what the character would do.
