rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I've found the games with the most welcoming cr is the ones that are mostly lcw, so I look for that. Smaller games are a pro, as are no casts that've grown large enough to dominate the game. I dealt with that shit in the homestuck era, I don't need it now.

Castmates are a big one too- I don't tend to app into casts that are already there.

it's definitely a question worth exploring. Someone below commented that social skills need as much practice as any other skillset and that without it, they'll wither away. (thanks, smartienon!) I think that's part of it--but the personal drive to be social outside of the internet also has to be there to an extent. I'm personally technologically ambivalent; I don't enjoy sitting at my computer for hours and hours (and yet am an rper look not everything needs to make sense okay) but for people who do, I could see how they could lose touch with social interaction outside the funbox. (that's your modem. i explained the joke.)

may i know both fitting and conflicting, this looks really fun!

i like to be optimistic, plus pissing and moaning isn't going to change how things ultimately are. i'm also of a 'wait and see' type of person because either 1. it's going to suck 2. they make it work, somehow or 3. they scrap that plan and go with something completely different. either way, at this point, being mad about the current state of gaming isn't going to change anything unless i have a plan (and some sort of multimedia empire behind me). i'm also trying to interpret their news, since i know they've repeatedly stated that if 15 fails, they're giving up on consoles... but i doubt they'd scrap the 7 remake if that's the case.

and tbh, releasing incomplete games isn't really a new thing to the the video game industry (see daikatana and a shitton of mediocre to shitty video games starting from its creation) but it's one that's become noticeable, as instead of turning to game studios for funding, developers are trying to use crowdsourcing as a alternative way to make the games they want and feel that fans want. and when a customer already has their dollar involved and invested, they're going to pay more attention to the outcome when it's not BIG EURO TRUCK RIG SIMULMATOR 1999 with five texures and steve forgot to code the brakes. i mean, i remember reading in a pc gamer back in the 90s about a game they were reviewing didn't have the water textured and it was a gray mass of polygon splines.

does no one remember walking past the rows of video games for pc and consoles with dubious titles like BIG GAME HUNTER and VIRTUAL POOL while they were growing up?

i pass if the game is

- dominated by animanga. i'm not interested in the medium anymore, so i don't know any of the canons/characters.
- dominated by one/two/three casts.
- a majority of young characters. all of my characters are middle aged, i don't want my character to be the only 21+ person there. especially if it's a sex game.
- full of characters/casts i'm not familiar with. in order for me to be invested or even interested in a game, there have to be at least a couple characters i know i'll be excited to tag with. in b4 WELL OMG JUST TRY IT blah blah whatever. yeah, i have, and i've dropped every game that i've gone in to blind. doesn't work for me.

Yeah it's obvious that my interests sit squarely in OU characters being ported in by one mechanic or another, but on thinking about AU I'd worry about it making things too inaccessible for people not familiar with Destiny. Letting characters and players learn about the world through playing in the game is easier than expecting them to read up on it all enough to build an AU application. I mean, if I was running it I would definitely allow Destiny OCs as well, but OU ports seems like the strongest way to have it as a game in general.

depends on the character

there are a few i play who seem to collect terribad rpers and so yeah, i think i'm better than most of them, most of them suck

there are a few i play where most of the other players are good, and i'm happy to toss ideas around with them

if i actually think i suck with a character i'm not going to play them anywhere, so that narrows my roster down to the ones i'm pretty confident about

i blame mulder/scully it ruined me for life

better. other people who also play my mains are total flakes, pretentious tryhards, or the characters suffer from "my head is pastede on yay" syndrome. the characters are some bland husk of their canon selves, and somehow every character these people play sound the exact same. i guess it makes it easier to slide in to dumb ships that way.
