rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. iirc the secret was describing game cliches, and part of it was something along the lines of "your characters are stuck in a spooky castle/spooky island/spooky hospital/spooky jamjar"

because how the characters regard one another can wind up entirely different, if not contradictory, to how you wind up shaping it.

trust me, that shit has an impact on your play, no matter how much you try to ignore it.

but I'd like to pretend op is aware of this risk, too, and is willing to go for it anyways, so argument's moot.

Already considered it, but with so many people calling themselves trash for different things it feels like it would be far too busy to keep up with.

Honestly I think it'd be pretty easy to make it all accessible! The RPG aspects of the game are actually pretty shallow, like these factions could easily be described/explained with short blurbs on some sort of info entry for a DWRP game and you wouldn't have to omit anything that'd be relevant to gameplay to keep it short. Most of the lore found in the game's grimoire wouldn't be immediately relevant to the characters anyway, so it'd probably just be best to set it up as a sci-fi/adventure game with a touch of horror and give players the BG info as they uncover it naturally in the readymade maps and story lines. Obviously you wouldn't want to guide players through the shitty barebones story of Vanilla Destiny but if someone wants to go digging through the laboratories on Venus you could use the Vex experiments as a jumping off point for an interesting mod or player plot.

But like I said a couple replies up I'm personally way too busy to spearhead this kind of thing, I'm just a total nerd who has read every available entry in the Book of Sorrows and would be totally down to help.

this isn't true now, but it was true twenty years ago that geekhood was the place for socially awkward outcasts. bullied by the jocks for wearing glasses and the geeks would take you in. it still has that image to some degree.

it's probably self-perpetuating. put a lot of socially awkward people together and they'll keep the same dysfunctions rather than learning better.

i suspect the root of it is in such people being strongly drawn to escapism, and fantasy/sci-fi is a particularly potent form of it.

Uh, she threw a hissy fit in june on the day of the gay marriage ruling. Plenty of Melodies players saw that as she was in the game back then. Plenty dropped her like scalding coals from hell. It's not secondhand deets when melodies players have seen it first hand.
