Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

what would you say the average tagging speed is nowadays?

i haven't rped in years but i saw someone say in a thread that it's something like once a day, and if that's the case then i don't see why people even stay in dwrp

i'd lose interest so fast

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
literally depends entirely on who you're rping with but yes i'd say it's a lot slower than years ago

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
once a day or slower is typical for most of the people i play with

i used to be really fast a few years ago too and i wish i could figure out why i'm not anymore

As for speed, for me it's because one a day or slower is typical for most of the people I encounter so it's hard to give a fuck and go faster.

i think it also happens because people do one a day, meaning that you tag them back (or out) and probably don't get anything back until you're unable to reply for whatever reason.

people have more shit to do now because we all grew up. we can't stay online until 4am boomeranging any more or sit at the computer tagging all day during school holidays.

I'm not as fast because the tagging pace is slow enough that I'm bogged down with backtags for month old threads that I don't particularly care about anymore. I have an easier time tagging 5 fresh threads 6 times each than I do tagging 30 threads, some of which have been going on forever and are irrelevant to my character's current state of being, 1 time each.

I don't mind that a lot of people are slower, I just wish DWRP as a whole didn't prioritize "backtag friendliness" to the extent that dropping a thread is now the worst flaky sin there is. People used to let threads go when they were meandering, and tbh I never cared. Nowadays you have to keep tagging until one character leaves, ask the other player if it's ok to end the thread (which is pretty cumbersome when you have 30 threads), or post one of those "dfsgdfg I have to let some old threads go sorry orz orz just let me know if you really want to continue one!" plurks.

I get that no one wants to thread with someone who drops important threads all the time in the middle of the action, but I'd have so much more fun if it was acceptable to just fucking let moldy old threads where nothing is happening but casual conversation go without having to grovel for permission to all your thread partners. Especially things like month old network posts.

I'm so weary of backtag friendliness. Like to a certain extent, you have to be willing to tag something for a little while after the day it happens, but when a thread is more than a month old, it's time to just hash out what happened and let it fucking go. I hate it when something said in a thread that "happened" weeks ago suddenly contradicts something that happened today because it's still going.

For chatter I can boomerang a little if someone else is online and even for slower things I can tag two or three times if I'm not busy. I go a day or two in between tagging days when I am. Serious logs that take some thought might be one a day but that's usually due to waiting for a response.

Maybe not everyone else loses interest so fast.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
that's why i don't rp here anymore

1 tag a day is far too fucking slow for standard network/commentspam tags and it's somehow become the norm

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
out of curiosity, where do you rp? been thinking about looking for new rp places but not sure where

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
i used to rp on tumblr before the formatting bullshit became too much for me to deal with, and now I just solicit my rp partners from there and periodically trawl rp w/me posts here for people who play from my fandoms

as for platforms, i do email and gdocs because i don't care about icons/gifs/etc. and only want to write prose these days

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
one per day means one per thread per day, if you have ten or twenty threads that's not all that bad

but yes, it's much slower than it used to be

i know exactly when/why i got a lot slower than i used to be, and while probably not everyone does, enough do that the rest got dragged down slowly

as well as, because the community is aging, we're all growing up and getting jobs and having less time for hobbies

it's not just less time, it's less energy. I've probably got roughly the same amount of time available to me when I get home from work as it I did when I got home from college, but all I want to do is veg out in front of the TV or play video games. I can't manage much more output for the day, let alone the 60 or whatever tags I used to manage.

this exactly

i had shit going on in my life when i started rp, too, but i'm getting older and yeah that means less energy to think up tags

pretty much this. work can be terribly draining and while i do enjoy a very large majority of my threads, and enjoy tagging around, some days i just don't have the brain power to boomerang / come up with good tags

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Most of my threads I tag once a day, if only because that is how fast the people I thread with tag. The threads I have with fast taggers routinely get 10-20 comments a day, so I feel like I could do more than one a day for the other threads if I got tagged back more frequently.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Between once every two days to three or four times per thread per day; between work and getting home, cooking supper, doing chores, and getting around some other hobbies I don't spend as much time RPing as I used to.
