the memory mechanic could be fun! you'd just have to strike a balance imo between "all" but more than the glimmers that Rakka and Reki had. not being able to attach names or faces to memories, or regaining only fragmented memories, might be the way to go.

as for the day of flight, the one itch that's difficult to scratch about the concept is that, in haibane renmei, nobody knew when the day of flight would happen. so it'd be kind of interesting to see if you could find a way to make that be a secret too. speaking from experience, not knowing when a character might permanently disappear is really exciting and to play around. one idea: every character gets at least six months (but no more than a year) in the jar, after which they are in a "pool" of characters who could potentially reach their day of flight. and then moderators could privately start contacting people about planning their day of flight.

and that's just getting into "normal" days of flight. i feel like reki and rakka's situations are just too good not to try and make some mechanics around. characters who are there longer then they should be! characters who should have had their day of flight but messed it up and are now working to maintain the wall!! (it is probably pretty obvious at this point but I really love haibane renmei. one of my favorite anime series, hands-down.)

ok, that makes sense! I think that differentiation will be helpful because lol, let's face it, rpers are kind of flakey and might not have the stamina or staying power to go through with it. it's a good starting point at least, for when the game is still small. you could always revisit the subject if the game got bigger.

That is definitely okay, Haibane Renmei is solidly in one of my top-5 animes, so it's a favorite of mine too.

I do like the 'pool' idea, and giving everyone a minimum of six months. To give it a bit more of a 'sudden' feeling, maybe all the players could supply more than enough memories to pull from (like, 30-40), and the characters don't actually get them all back? So that a character could reach their day of flight at any time after six months, but it would still be somewhat random so that the players aren't like "okay, they got all of their memories back, their day of flight should be coming soon." And definitely yes to the special cases, that would be exciting to have too.

Man, I really want to do this now. I guess I should put my feelers out for a co-mod to help me.
