Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

... how can it be grounded in canon if it never comes up in canon, anon.

- His blue attack makes the human especially bound by gravity/physics.
this is canon

- If he can do that, he could do the opposite to make himself less bound by gravity/physics.
this is headcanon

just because sans can do wacky gravity shit doesn't mean papyrus can. sure, he might be able to. but that's not canon.

- Papyrus is shown to be able to at random points defy gravity, including one instance where it doesn't make sense as a gag because literally nothing happens that sets it apart as a gag other than "teehee it's Papyrus."

"teehee it's Papyrus" is like half of everything he does in the game

You know what I mean. "Teehee it's Papyrus" as in the dismissive "he has no depth whatsoever he's a walking gag there is nothing serious to him at all silly stupid skeleton who can't do anything right"

... no, that's the definition of a gag right there

A gag is supposed to make you laugh. It's supposed to be funny.

Randomly running into the air over the protag for no discernible reason isn't funny to anyone I've talked to. They were, instead, confused by it. Because it came out of nowhere and just. Happened.

"It came out of nowhere and just. Happened" is something you could say about half the monsters, I'm not really sure why people were confused by a moment of utter random from Papyrus.

Also if Papyrus canonically had the power to make himself lighter, that moment still wouldn't make sense except as a gag. It's the one and only time he displays it and it's for absolutely no practical purpose. Why do it? Because it's funny. Or Toby thought it would be funny, anyway.

You've really never seen a gag where a character feels an emotion so strongly that they do something silly? I don't know about recent shows, but like an anon down thread mentioned, it's a relatively common type of gag in older cartoon. Snuffles didn't float off the ground because he can defy gravity, he just really like dog treats.
