I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

is about midrange and we normally get a few new posts a day. the intro and event logs are normally busy with people both top-levelling and tagging around. our last event post is currently at 1000 comments and rising.

since the game is mostly SoL (horror SoL, sure, but SoL none the less), play is as busy or as laid back as you want it to be, within reason. slower players can get by tagging into fewer things, but there's a lot to do if you like more on your plate. characters can join or run clubs, investigate the school's mysteries, go to class... you have to be proactive as most of what happens outside events is player initiated, but the characters in game are good at arranging things so personally I never find myself at a loss for things to do.

Agreed on most counts, except for investigating the school's mysteries. I have a character who would realistically be expected to look into that kind of thing, but in between plots it's just a whole lot of nothing.

agreed, anon. there's just nothing in the game's mechanics or setting that encourages seeking out plot yourself, unless you count the NPCs, though I personally wouldn't as the mods seem more interested in treating them like PCs. even then you're barely given anything to work with. as far as the environment goes, everything that *might* be worth investigating or plotty is basically inaccessible. hence where a lot of the SoL comes in. PCs can't do anything unless the metaplot demands it.

There's no problem with a "make your own fun" kind of approach. The mods never claimed it would be a character-driven game. If they did it on purpose then it's just the nature of the game; the PCs are held at the mercy of the unknown. It's a conflict between the characters' IC desires to figure out All The Things and the mods' plans for the game. That in itself can create IC tension. Good times.

Trouble is, to me it's not clear if they made it unsolvable by design or by accident.
