I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I've been going back and forth on a few characters that I want to rp here. The two teenagers I have aren't exactly sports but they have interest in them - I thought it'd be funny to play one off of a cast having to do with their sport of choice just so they could be bewildered over how intense they are about it.

My main concern is being unmotivated to tag due to the repetition of events in the game. From what I've noticed, LCWs don't excel in this game, so it seems better to app into a cast. I had some people interested in the characters I wanted to bring, but it wasn't enough to make me take the leap.

I have another character I'd like to try who is an adult, but he's a sports! I thought that maybe he could do well with the teenagers, acting as a mentor, but from what I've read in this thread and what I've had friends in the game tell me, adults don't do well in the game at all. I noticed that the Gintama cast is doing okay though.

some adults do fine but they have to be adults who'd be willing to engage with the teenage casts. the kotetsu from tiger and bunny who recently dropped had a bunch of solid cr for that reason. all my characters are 'kid' aged but i'd like to have more adults around and have actively sought adult cr with all my characters. of course, this thread would have you think i'm a giant lying liar who lies but w/e.

i think one thing that hasn't really been mentioned in the thread is that the adult characters who seem to do better (in my experience) are the ones who take the 'parent' label at least half-seriously. it gives them a reason to get involved in the lives of the teenagers and their friends, but they can also be teachers or even bosses and employ the munchkins. adults and teens don't normally socialize together so in a straight up sol setting (outside of events that randomly stick characters together) there needs to be a reason for them to interact. if these aren't ideal places to start then yeah, it might not be the right game for you, but if these are things you can work with then maybe try to get in on the end of this month's tdm or come into the next one.

Like the above anon said, taking the parent label half seriously or very seriously definitely helps, but I don't think it even necessarily has to be that. It's just good if the character is interested in interacting with the teenagers and kids in general. I know that's at least the case with all of us in the Gintama cast. Our characters tend to easily develop a sense of responsibility for kids. At the same time, though, the more adult characters the more they can hang out with each other. So come hang with us? We've got an old man club and everything.

But yeah considering how filled to the brim with teenagers the game is, you really have to app an adult that will put in SOME effort to spend time with them. But if it's a sports adult, it sounds like he should fit that bill.
