I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

so I'm new to this but what exactly is nanowrimor? I mean, I get that it's a big push to write a certain amount of words in a single month but it's got a web site? That you have to sign up for and wait for an invitation to be emailed to you to and I guess what I'm asking is exactly what does the web site do other than keep track of your word count and give you the equivalent of little gold stars?

you can add your friends and see their wordcounts too, and there are forums where you can hang out with other people doing it to cheer each other on, bounce ideas, check details, and if you live in a reasonably populated area, have meetups to hypothetically all sit your asses down and write together (i've never been, but my friend went to our city's and said it was actually mostly chatting)

you don't have to use the site

+1

some people also just like to show how long they've been participating/how many times they "won".

NaNoWriMo basically stands for National Novel Writing Month. It's an event where writers get together to meet a common goal of writing 50,000 words in a month.

The idea behind it is that people are more likely to make a goal if they make it known to others and have others to talk about it with and compete with. So part of the point of the site is to provide that community and a way to announce your goal since by joining you are saying you plan to try and meet that goal.

Overall, the most fun part about the event is meeting other writers and being able to share the joys and pains of trying to make a shared goal for the month and the time leading up to it. Everyone will help each other with challenges, ideas, knowledge and so on. Not only will people help with just trying to meet the goal, but people often help with ideas for your novel and if you need some info about something, people will either provide it or give you some places to do research. Other folks in the community are also willing to help polish ideas or give ideas for stuff that they aren't going to use or they just think would be interesting to see. There's usually a thread for dares which is crazy stuff people dare others to include in their novels and some of it ends up making for neat scenes.

So overall, yes it's about writing, but the fun part of it truly is the community and how everyone comes together to share ideas and help each other make a goal.

Also, if you sign up for the site and you win (reach the word count) they'll give you prizes. Some of the prizes are little badges and stuff to put on Internet profiles, but it also includes discount codes for writing programs and some other things.
