I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

is it normal for people playing from a later canon point to play out their character thinking my earlier canon point castmate is a burden?

they're seriously playing out their character feeling like mine is a dependent child they have to care for when in all honesty, their character has been pretty dependent on mine throughout the whole series

only in the EARLY early canon (i play from the second to last arc, i'm not far behind) is my character somewhat dependent on theirs but my character's not NEARLY as burdening as they're implying

my character can make friends on their own and explore the town without a babysitter, idk what the mun's thinking by making their character THINK like that. maybe if they were implying "i don't want my friend to go off on their own because i don't trust people in this town/because then we wouldn't be together and it's been so long since we've been together/because he's too friendly and might befriend one my new rivals and that would chafe my ass to the extreme".... but no!

idk if this is normal or really bad characterization?

sorry, had to get that off my chest

no, obviously its bad characterisation/mun projecting their feelings

how can we answer this without knowing the characters or the canon involved?

Just because you describe it a certain way doesn't mean the actual characters are that way.

smh. the answer will vary wildly depending on canon points in question and on the characters

It's something that's going to be very dependent on the canon, characters and situation because even if your character has usually been independent, theirs could easily feel responsible for yours realizing they know something yours doesn't yet.

Like, a character might be pissed off to be treated like glass by their canonmates, but she doesn't know she has a breakdown later in canon, or loses someone important to her, gets injured, dies, etc. There are understandable reasons for a castmate to get a little overbearing when they didn't in canon and there's probably subtler ones than what I just mentioned.

That said it's obvious you feel this is bad characterization so go talk to your canonmate and ask them what's up. That or just ignore their character being a nanny goat and have your character be the independent person they are, w/e.

It's going to depend on characters and canon. I play someone from early canon with a post canon castmate and the castmate doesn't treat her any different than normal. He's a bit protective of her, but only a tiny bit more than normal and it's understandable because in his time she's dead.
