I would caution you against glossing over Gilgamesh's consent issues entirely. Lazy writing aside, it's part of his character, and that's not just Nasu at work. It's referenced in the Epic that he's out of control and pretty much sleeping with everybody whether they liked it or not (everybody being all the brides-to-be in town on their wedding night).

It's fine to veer away from the Saber stuff a little, but Gilgamesh is a sexual predator. He's pushy and would threaten others if he saw them as getting uppity. These are not things you can ignore on a discomfort level so I would weigh that seriously before picking him up.

Nasu definitely cherry picks what he wants to include from the myths, though, and it was obviously an active choice for him to characterize Gil like that. I mean, it's part of his story that he learns to cut that stuff out and become a more just king after becoming friends with Enkidu, which Nasu deliberately chooses to ignore. And he doesn't go straight to making sexual threats when people are being testy in other instalments, because his characterization has expanded from his role as a villain since F/sn. Apart from that, there are a bunch of Servants in the franchise who are more or less unrecognizable from their mythological/historical counterparts, so I think "he's like this in the myth therefore it's a justified characterization choice regardless of the wider context and it can't be overlooked" is maybe a little unreasonable.

I totally get what you're saying but I personally wouldn't care if someone chose to downplay those specific elements in order to make CR less troubling for everyone to play out.
