I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

There were plenty of those on WG last post. Go look them up.

And really, since demons have scales and horns and spikes and hooves, I don't see how batlike = mini-demon, unless you automatically equate leathery wings with demons.

Re: mini-demons, they seem pretty similar personality/magic wise and the wings are similar too (but only good for gliding).

Mostly I'm looking for suggestions to make individual vampires more unique and less like every other vampire character, I guess? Other monster types seem to allow for more variation within the group, but there's probably something I'm not thinking of (aside from unique fur color).

Personality-wise: Vampires and demons are pretty different, IMO. Demons are more chaotic and spontaneous whereas vampires are more refined and manipulative. Think the charming killer archetype vs. the loose cannon. Vampires also stereotypically lean towards vanity and an appreciation for beauty rather than just outright destruction. Like the bestiary says, vampires also tend to think of themselves as superior and specifically as superior to humans. You could also go with some of the drawbacks, like being unable to cross running water, needing to be invited into houses, or having to count things.

Magic-wise: They don't seem to have much in common with demons and actually seem somewhat stronger magic-wise? Their hypnosis ability is from what I can see the strongest of all monster-hypnosis type of things. Demons and shades have possession, but vampires can essentially create human servants (and often do in fiction). Turning into fog/mist lets them get into enclosed spaces, and they've got superhuman speed to boot.

Design-wise:
-Bat ears can come in basically any shape and size.
-For wings you could go with full-on wing hands, full wings attached to their wrist, webbing with spines in it, pinky and ring fingers transformed into wing-fingers with the rest being normal, etc.
-For feet you can pretty much give them hand-feet.
-Some bats have long tongues (and one type of bat has a tongue that's as long as its body). Do what you will with that...
-Fur-wise, they can have manes, neck ruffs, and one bat has fur that looks like a mohawk. Full body fur is an option too, especially if they have wings they can't use with a shirt on.
-The mods okayed bat tails.
-Split bottom lips.
-Most people don't opt for facial changes and especially not uglier ones, but bat noses come in a lot of varieties if you want that.
-Longer forearms if they have wings, so they can do 'wing walking'.

The mohawk one is Chapin's bat, if anyone besides me wondered!

Lean hard on the undead angle.

We're allowed to take features from various cultures vampire myths, so like. I saw Madoka for this event using the Vampire the Masquerade which seems to be fair game, so if you want to use any esoteric weaknesses or feature changes from there, that seems fine as long as you don't do extra strengths! Make a Malkavian. You could also probably start to lean more to revenant rather than vampire. Jiangshi, even! Rather than going pale, they could have discolored flesh like gangrenous, or white patches like some fungi is starting to feed on the skin. Corpse-like glazed over look to the red eyes is probably fine too.

Get your character killed and have their moment of death being something that echoes around their vampire skull, even if not consciously, the trauma from that pervading their motivations from the on out. Have them lose touch with certain things about living. Vampires are connected with decadence frequently: you could probably get away with having a character lean hedonist. Especially if it's something that comes about because they have trouble feeling as connected to things as they did when they were living and this reminds them that they're still there.

Or, for ridiculous comedy option: make them need to get invited into places and make posts about that being a pain in the ass, waiting for their roommate to come home because their name isn't on the lease so they need permission to enter.

Personally, I find animal changes boring, but all the suggestions about bat things still holds.

Oh god, don't make a Malkavian. So many people err on the side of fishmalk I'd rather not see that.

i'm sorry i don't feel like whipping out an e-dictionary every time someone uses a made up word on the internet. if you're going to use it, be ready to explain it

which is hilarious since it probably took you more time to post a snarky comment bitching about not knowing what it means than simply looking it up.

no excuse for you being a lazy brat.

if someone's going to play a Malk, they need to play someone like Tourette from Bloodlines. or just play Tourette herself. love that girl.
