I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I don't think I gotten to that point yet, but Asura might still fit since wanting to cause harm is part of the word.

It's not a perfect word, but I think it's better than impurity, which doesn't really fit the cardinal, from your description?

It fits her better than malevolence, as it does everyone else, imo. Impurity suggests that the person's mind became tainted in some negative way — whether through obsession or hatred or whatever else happened to them. Malevolence suggests immediate evil, when that wasn't the case with some people.

impurity also has the contentions of being fixable by itself.

Malevolence does not.

To you maybe, but the vast majority of impurities do not fix themselves. For example, if a boat crashes and dumps a bunch of oil into the ocean, that's not fixing itself.

Also, Zestiria never really mentioned if malevolence can fix itself without the Shepard to purify or someone reasonably powerful killing the hellion. It fact it's more implied that the nature of malevolence is that it doesn't want to change and some cases get so bad that they cannot be purified.

Also, malevolence implies the person always had ill or evil intentions. The further you get into the game, the more you find out this isn't the case. A big theme that is constantly shown is the fact that malevolence isn't always caused by ill will and that there are people and seraphim that aren't hellions who are awful people.

It's especially an ill fitting term once you find out how the Lord of Calamity came into being. It's also ill fitting for seraphim who become hellions because their vessel became a hellion. Also look at the cases of animals becoming hellions. Animals aren't truly capable of good or evil, they act based on instinct or training. Yet in one sidequest we have a case of a dog becoming a hellion along with its owner. There's also characters capable of great evil, yet they aren't hellions. That's the thing, hellion doesn't mean evil, and it doesn't always mean the person was the cause. Malevolence is really more of an outside force that corrupts, much like oil spilling into an ocean.

IIRC, there's Agatha in Marlind (the lady who was selling off books after her daughter died from the plague) who was beginning to generate malevolence when she was found out, but after being turned in/arrested, the malevolence cleared up by itself, which surprised Sorey & co.

They aren't very clear about it in the main plot though, and I don't think they really ever bring it up again, so /shrugs. I could also be remembering the sidequest wrong; it's been a while.

actually the oil thing is pollution...

and that would be a better english termed thing to have used than impurity (which is often more spirtual then tempermental/intention) or maleovence

Might want to get further into the game then. The issue I have with malevolence as a term is the implications of being evil, yet the game treats malevolence more like something capable of infecting people.

Truly, I think the only way it truly works is to think of it as a world specific term for them and only consider how the game shows it and disregard any meanings we use.
