rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Well, I was considering this game, but from the sound of it, I have to put in more effort to write an app than I had to to study for the SATs, so I guess I can strike this one. Makes me kind of sad because I liked the premise.

I wouldn't write off the entire game based on one app cycle. There are new mods who might be reacting to critique from previous cycles about being lax about apps.

I know that I, for one, will be hitting up the mod HMD when it's posted this month.

Take more than 20 minutes to write your application, have a personality section longer than three paragraphs, make sure your traits fit the personality section, and you'll do fine. That's what people got rejected for NOT doing.

But hey if you don't want to write, in a writing hobby, I'm sure there's an ecats game out there for you.

Roleplay is a "writing for fun" hobby. It's where we don't have to worry about having points taken off for misplaced modifiers and comma splices.

Much like the SAT example above, I'd rather be judged by my ability to actually do the roleplaying (thread samples) than by my ability to take the test well.

If you can't match your traits to your personality section or cough up more than 3 paragraphs of personality, I'm dubious as to whether or not your roleplaying would be any better. It's hardly asking for HOURS AND HOURS OF HARD WORK.

There are plenty of rejections for longer apps. I know that actually checking things yourself is harder than repeating things other people have said, but it does help when we're trying to have a conversation.

And is longer roleplay necessarily "good" roleplay? That mistaken correlation is how we ended up with people writing purple garbage just for the sake of word count.

good god you sound entitled.

it's really not that hard. all you have to do is spend more than 10 minutes HONESTLY thinking about key character traits (even if you can't come up with a full ten) and then use them as your outline for the personality. just alluding to one or two traits that were tangently related to larger personality points worked and didn't get a revision. all the revisions for traits and lacking personality sections seemed pretty legit to me. it's all about being able to write a cohesive app.

there's also a precedent for the mods here giving bullshit excuses when called out on their inconsistent behavior, and a tendency for app standards to spike after new mods are appointed.

I'm genuinely curious, what excuses are this?

I wrote my app in literally an hour. I started with my trait list and expanded on each of those so they were supported in my personality section and provided a sample that wasn't 'oh no, where am I, what's going on?'. Bam, done, no problems.
