Well

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Anon, I've got a similar problem- in canon, character has canonically-diagnosed OCD that's written with a lot of atypical symptoms. Been trying to work the fine line of adding in more typical symptoms (obsession with more "mundane" rituals, intrusive thoughts, etc.) without going overboard or making the character too OOC.

If it's not outing yourself, mind mentioning the name of the character? Might be able to help a bit more if we have more of an idea of what the character's "madness" is.

The Doctor. A pre-Time War incarnation, so I can't really use PTSD.

Six.

I'm not sure I'd call any of the Classic Doctors 'mad'. Maybe Six, before his character development in the audio dramas.

That said, most people just call the Doctor 'mad' because they don't understand how he works or why he does what he does. It's not that he's insane, it's that his actions and values directly contradict common sense.

Oh, may I ask who your OCD character is? I always like to hear about characters with OCD, especially those whose OCD is portrayed well or unusually.

The Riddler, AKA Nygma/Nigma/Nashton depending on canon.

It also depends on canon whether or not he's actually diagnosed with it, or how well it's written, but the general consensus is that his compulsions manifest with leaving riddles to a) prove his intelligence and b) tell the truth.

Usually it's attributed to the abuse he suffered in childhood, because (again depending on canon) his father refused to believe that he was as intelligent as he is and was cheating/lying about it.
