i love klavier but i cant defend him, i don't even know why i like klavier

i have characters that i love for no reason too! i know how it is lol.

lmao seriously, my enjoyment of klavier does NOT stand up to any scrutiny, but damn if i don't still like him anyway

i think it's just the preteen in me that enjoys pretty anime boys that's responsible for it

I like him because I like flamboyant, cheerfully smug characters who also have an earnestly serious/principled side and are actually surprisingly good people (I kind of like him for a lot of the reasons I like Snake from 999 and wanted to like Josh from TWEWY before he went and turned out to be a fucker anyway), but I don't know about you.

that's the thing, other than his diva fit he seems too flawless? like a good all natured guy that everyone thinks is cool when in reality it just makes him look very bizarre. this goes to kristoph too in a lesser extent, but anyone would compare to dahlia.

Yeah, that's really the issue with Klavier's character. They don't give him much in the way of flaws or really let him make any mistakes or get caught doing anything bad. Every other prosecutor has flaws or gets caught doing something bad. About the worst Klavier has is the diva fit and how he pokes fun at Ema and Apollo. I don't mind him as a character, but he's just kinda bland and even the Paynes get more characterization than Klavier does.

Honestly, it's a bit of a shame that Klavier wasn't involved in the first trial at all. 4-1 would have given a chance for him to shine far more. The game just may have been so much better if Apollo was just a rookie attorney for Gavin's office, then Smith is killed in the second or third trial (pretty much, similar to how the first game ran with Mia) and Klavier gets to now prove Phoenix guilty until Apollo accuses his brother, and so on. 4-4 also would have been more interesting if Klavier was involved in both the trials involving Kristoph.

They don't have him do anything bad, sure. But that sort of fits in with AA4's running theme of deconstructing its own franchise. Like how Apollo gets reprimanded for shouting in court, or everything to do with the last case.

Klavier is initially presented as a foppish antagonist, but in the same way Apollo is not New!Phoenix, Klavier turns out not to be New!Edgeworth. He's a decent guy who just wants to do his job right.

i think that was more a bad executive decision then if that's true. aa4 is a more tame game compared to the trilogy, which is exactly why klavier should've seemed more realistic.

the overall story is still pretty crazy, but the cases themselves don't hit the trilogy's level of "ridiculous" until 4-4. the cases themselves don't feel as cartoony, and the moral of 4-3 is a serious criticism that wasn't directly addressed by the series before, and the game attempts to establish a jury system (aa5 threw this out of the window, however). plus, phoenix is a shady character and puts a lot of mystery into how the game feels to you. so yes, it's a more tame and darker game than the trilogy was, bridge to the turnabout aside.
