I really miss memloss games. aside from Raise the Earth, are there any games that are total memloss/more memloss than just 'you forget your name' (which, iirc, Forest Covered or something like that does?)

This. People put that they don't want memloss on ATP, but there really aren't hardly any memloss games left for those of us who do want them. =(

no AC.* let people play because they're having fun, not because they have to meet a quota.

*within reason. if someone's sitting on their character for 2+ months without doing anything they need the boot, obv.

What about monthy check-ins for everyone, and proof of activity? Nothing big, just "show me you're actually playing in this game this month".

No more networks UNLESS they make sense with the setting, and even then AC should count network conversations as half their worth. So tired of characters doing the RL equivalent of sitting in their underwear eating Cheetos as they obsessively refresh Plurk. Boring.

More quest type shit like in Each. Non-powered characters getting chances to do cool shit/make an impact/earn powers/weapons/what-have-you through plots or game interactions.

Some Anon the past few Game ideas posts keeps slobbering over characters having to fit ironclad roles with a kind of bizarre boner for how Ryslig does it? You're not cute, stop that shit.

No more omniscient, invisible, all-powerful, cackling NPCS
No more giving small chunks of plot points away to players who automatically go "WELL, my smirking animu teen genius/la anti-hero would NEVER share this with ANYONE" thus grinding all plot to a halt while they shlick to their tiny illusion of power

like:
prose-only games
au games, or au/oc games
scifi and historical fantasy settings
player-controlled npcs and secondary characters
lists of player-created locations and other "common knowledge"
ac that's focused on completing threads and maintaining an active presence in the game rather than meeting some arbitrary post quota
allowing player characters to take actual leadership roles in the game
morally grey factions

don't like:
bloated apps
1:1 day ratios
networks that don't make sense within the context of the setting
too many factions, or too many locations across a very large and difficult-to-travel area
neutral/anti-conflict factions, because they are boring
jamjar cliches (communication devices, jamjar gods, going home, communal housing, etc.)
memory loss, modern urban fantasy, survival horror, fairy tales, the italian mafia,
plots that involve trying to get information out of mod-controlled npcs, because they are always frustrating

there's a couple things i sort of want to disagree with, but i don't want to make it seem like i'm crapping on your faves/dislikes.

player controlled npcs can just be asking for trouble. especially if multiple people play the same char in multiple ways and are weird with game information or infomod or just act like general dicks.
1:1 day ratios are, imo, way better than games that are at 2:1 or, god forbid 3:1. if there's a plot, nothing gets done in any manner of a timely fashion. a lot of games are slow/backtag friendly as it is. slowing the day ratio down is just too much. not to mention it's a pain in the ass to keep track of what day/date it is in game or how long a char's been there.

More fast-paced games with high AC. We have plenty slower games with low AC, but outside of ECATS there really aren't any choices for fast-paced games.

Want:

-au/single fandom games
-apps with word limit caps and/or a focus on samples over walls of text
-limited networks, if any (the less features, the better tbh.)
-games where players can run effective villain plots without their villain being too powerless to do anything effective
-a clearly defined warning/disciplinary system instead of a vague "uh don't be dicks?" i have more confidence in a game when the mods seem to know how they're going to deal with problems before the problems start.

Don't want:

-au/jamjar hybrids. don't try to please everyone at once; pick one.
-sex games
-ac that's annoying to fill out
-networks that don't fit the setting
-networks that are so convenient that characters end up sitting around using them all the time instead of interacting face-to-face.
-omnipotent npcs
-determining which characters get important plot roles with rng and rng alone.

- au/single fandom games
- DRs
- limited/no networks
- exploration
- interactable NPCs with personalities
- actively punishing characters for dying/discouraging characters from dying

don't want:
- italian mafia. glasskey's setup is a little uncomfortable
- memory loss
- CDC clones
- 1:1 day ratios
- omniscient NPCs
- related to above, characters not being able to affect the plot

Re: Stuff In Games You Want To See And Don't Want To See

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
want:
-au/single fandom games.
-open worlds with lots of worldbuilding.
-more variety in settings. we have a lot of dystopian scifi, a lot of new york and london, a lot of hotels/resorts, a lot of generic towns, a lot of steampunk, etc.
-a dressing room game with some actual story and structure that characters could casually interact with.
-small games with a lot of ooc communication between the players.
-cast caps.
-apps with word limits and suitability sections.
-some kind of central conflict that affects every character in the game in some way.
-problem solving or investigation tasks.

do not want:
-networks. (it's okay if some form of digital communication exists in the game, but treat it realistically instead of like some magical network that inexplicably links all of the player characters.)
-commentspam.
-mods who are so cagey about the plot that it's impossible to figure out what's going on.
-a game that tries to cater towards every player and every character. it's okay if the game won't work for a lot of characters. it's okay if some people won't like the rules or the gameplay style or the style of the app.
-games that are totally dominated by good guys.
-anything that's decided by a rng. especially if it's something that affects my character's role in the game.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Want to see:
+AC that is part check in, part plotting. I'd rather see someone sum up what their character did that month, both threaded out and handwaved stuff. And while it would get wanked on, I'd rather see no set comment count or else some way for mods to boot for low activity even if a player meets the bare minimum.
+Interesting networks that fit the game premise. I don't think networks are bad in theory, but am so sick of stuff that doesn't fit with the premise. Got a sci fi game, why not use holograms or communication chips. Got a fantasy game? Why not something like a crystal ball or magic mirror.
+Apps that ask players about suitability of character or if the character doesn't fit in the setting, how is the player going to handle this? I'd also like to see the player have to give some ideas of things the character would do beyond their intro post and maybe some goals. Nothing set in stone, just something that shows the player thought beyond the intro.
+More catch all intro logs. I love it when games put the intros into one post and even better if they give a few prompts to work with.
+More test drives that can be game canon. I'd rather see it be an optional thing up to the players involved, but with a shot of them being in game canon more current players are likely to tag and help newbies get a sample thread.
+Games that give powers to characters
+Games with interesting mechanics for death, still would love to see something where another character can give something up for the revival of someone and/or something where revival mechanics can vary.
+Mandatory to have a HMD. Only because that deters a lot of undesirable players
+Mod ability to ban toxic players even if no specific rule covers their behavior. If a player is being a shithead and making the game no fun for everyone else or creating a ton of extra work for the mods, they need to go.

Do not want:
-More sex and survival horror games. If one closes another can replace it, but we have more than enough already.
-More of the same overall premises as other stuff we have
-More games based off a canon.
-Anything not a 1:1 ratio. Though I would be fine with a game having an event that is more OOC days than IC days or doing timeskips as needed.
-Zero penalties for character death
-All powerful NPCs that can't be touched
-Lack of in character consequences for any action, good or bad. If a character goes on a killing spree, they should be punished. But at the same time if characters band together to build something, their work shouldn't be undone by mod actions.

I'd like to see a pre-apocalyptic game, instead of post-apocalyptic. Characters try to stop the impending world-ending situation and then have to deal with what happens after the world as they know it is ended.

Tiered AC that's more carrot than stick. Monthly check-ins with no quota don't work - that's like saying get rid of apps entirely and hope people bring quality out of the goodness of their hearts - but you should reward the really active people too.

If 1:1, lots of flexibility and openness so players don't have to sit on their asses and wait for the mods to do a thing so they can do things themselves. I was in a game with a tightly controlled setting in which the mods went MIA and as a result everyone was basically stuck in a spooky dorm for a month. Bedrooms, a kitchen, and I don't even remember if we had bathrooms or not. That killed things pretty quickly.

If a higher ratio, lots of plot/details to compensate for being stuck. Time is also a thing players can be stuck in. I was in a 7:1 game which was shit miserable because we barely were given anything to play with besides the base setting and so it became highly SOL. I was in a 4:1 game which was great because the mods gave us a lot of hooks to play with.

If there's a network, have it make sense for the setting and integrated properly. If there isn't a network, give players a lot of IC reasons to have their person interact with random strangers and build CR, and make it easy for characters to get out and interact. If there is a network, still give characters an impetus to get out and interact face-to-face, like make it clear early on that it's really not a good medium for secret communications or whatever.

In terms of genre, all I'm going to say is that if you're doing horror do something different from the big mainstay games. Similarly, if you're doing sex try to add your own twist to it. We can use more games, but not clones of previous successful games.

i want character to be able to have their cars/mecha/personal shuttles etc in games. "sorry, no room in this gigantic space ship/city/whatever for anything you can't carry with you!" is dumb.

i hate seeing non-human/oid characters humanized. reeks of laziness on the mods' part that they can't think of ways to incorporate nonhumans in their game setting.

more murdergames

or a long-term revolving murdergame. one that has a month-long game then hiatuses for a month to set up a new murdergame that runs for another month. that way people can join for just one murdergame when they have the time, but don't have to join for the next one, etc.

Honestly I really want another game along the vein of Soul Canpaign. Based off another canon, NPCs are canon characters from that setting, the characters are pulled in somehow and have to deal with that world or a threat from that world or SOMETHING like that.

I'd love to see it for something like Attack on Titan or something like that. I just think there are plenty of canons with interesting premises hat would make for good games.
