rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Can I get some opinions on this (http://alchemy-mod.insanejournal.com/2025/07/01/) app format?

I've been looking at the pros and cons of how we do apps here on DW and want to find some alternates to the bog-standard History/Personality/two samples format we have now. :/a the IJ app above had me interested in its focus more on how the player and character would fit in game.

It's time we had some more variety in how we run games, anyway.

I think this looks fun but it does seem like it's more applicable to OCs. History/Personality based apps may be boring but when it comes to vetting a person's understanding of a canon character there's a reason they are so common. It's harder to see the whole picture with more specific questions.

some of the ooc questions are a bit silly and pointless, but i liked that back in the early days of ljrp it was common to include a little "profile" section with information on your availability, your previous rp experience, your rp interests, how you get along with other people, whether you've modded, etc.

the ic questions look interesting and could probably be used to replace most of the personality section of an app. i'm tired of long, rambling personality essays and i don't think they lead to better players or better rp. you can almost always cover the most important aspects of a character's personality in less than 500 words.

i do like the sample and i think something like that would be good for prose games. when i mod, the ic samples rarely give me any vital information. by the time i've gotten to that part of the app, i usually can tell whether the person can write well enough and whether they have a coherent character concept.

The ooc questions are stupid and pointless. I wouldn't apply to a game that required questions like these.

I think the best way to improve apps would be to impose a word limit and also include a section about appropriateness to the setting, and what are your plans/what will your character's motivations be in the game? Also make all samples optional, replaced with test drive or meme threads. Threads show how you actually play and respond to others.

Oh I like this idea! Especially for apping OCs.

Several of the OOC questions are frivolous and dated, and had better be updated as new memes roll in--or better yet just be straight up about details of availability and other OOC needs and wants.

I like the IC section, mostly. I would probably aim for some mix of DWRP's standard app form and this, though. Break into sections character background specific info and character CR/future events and plots info.
