why bother encouraging people to get a legit copy in the first place when they can't even play it

"Hey guys, play Lamento legally by buying the game! Support the creators!" --> "Oops, turns out most recent, legit copies doesn't even work with our patch! Might as well go pirate it like you could have done in the first place while the game you wasted money on sits on your shelf collecting dust!"

Please tell me the translation team is at least trying to look into making the English patch compatible with the Vista edition (the regular edition on Nitro+Chiral's shop, which I'm assuming what people are having trouble with).

Because, good god, does this make them look like they're playing lip service. Not really the kind of image you want to have.

you can still buy a copy of the game, then pirate a version that works with the patch to actually play. inconvenient, but it's the best way to actually support the developers.

the translation team probably genuinely wasn't aware that something in the newest versions of the game rendered the patch incompatible.

i dunno, if i'm going to pay a lot of money for something to support the developers then i'd rather be able to use the product i bought from them

Translator from last post again and yeah, this is precisely the case.
The game works up to patch version 103--my physical copy is older and patched up, so we didn't get any input about the compatibility issues until people with patch version 200 started reporting them.

Unfortunately we don't really have the coders available to start reworking this nipa tool, which is used to create the patch files. Nipa has the use lamentos particular encryption for it to work--nitro games are just kind of set up that way, and the tool may be outdated alongside because it works with lamentos earlier versions. But we have to work with what's available.

It would be a lot shittier of us to flat-out encourage pirating the game especially when the nature of this issue still isn't 100% clear. If you want to support the developers, an older copy like an anon above recommended is the way to go.

Patch compatibility with different versions is honestly somewhat beyond our control. We can only create two possible versions of the nss files: compressed or not. Replacing the existing nss with a newly-packed one, instead of using nss-patch, was found to straight-up not work, even on a clean install, even though packing the nss yourself into the same format *does* work.

I'm willing to walk people through that process if they want to try and get it working that way, but otherwise were unfortunately restricted to working within the means available to us.
