we have absolutely no confirmation that they're going to make it in the style of the first REmake. that was mikami's baby, not the current team's. for a long time, when people asked for an RE2 remake, capcom's response was "you have one. it's called darkside chronicles." there's no indication either way which direction this specific team is going to take the remake, and personally, i don't really trust them to do the right thing right now.

i trust them just fine so long as it's not outsourced (like the past few unnumbered games) or in the hands of the revelations 2 team.

honestly, i'm more worried that it'll attempt to be more serious and remove any awkwardness or humor or replace classic lines with similar ones like remake did. i'm hoping they don't ask alyson back again, as well. she was fine for re2 claire but not for the character's evolution. especially since she doesn't know how not to scream, how to step back from the mic, or how to act in general.

i like the cut of your jib, anon. if you do really trust them then i'll hold out a tiny hope as well.

honestly, even darkside wasn't so bad for a condensed story (ignoring rail shooter). the new dialogue was refreshing and cute. hopefully they do a bit of a rehaul because i'd love to see them not making excuses for leon and claire to part up so much and maybe even have them work together a bit?

can't say i'm too excited about playing as sherry, though. it'll probably be a little more challenging if not frustrating. i'm a little curious how the whole infected thing will go now that certain things are more acceptable in games and the bar has been pushed much further. i really hope they don't get too detailed, either visually or verbally on the whole birkin part.

annette got hot, though. very much looking forward to that in hd, heheh. hope they stick to darkside ada, too. i miss when she didn't look like a kpop star that's spent a ton on surgery...

i honestly liked darkside, too. it was the best current(ish) gen version of claire's character imo. i think they did a good job with her. i have no idea what happened in rev2 where suddenly she's kind of cold and doesn't know how to talk to kids anymore, but.

as far as the sherry thing goes though, i'm holding out hope that it happened kind of in a similar vein as re5 and damnation, where the thing got shoved down her throat. people always jumped to the worst possible scenario with that, but even if that is the case i seriously doubt capcom is going to actually show child rape. i hope. ugh. idk.

annette totally became a super babe, but i prefer ada's re4 looks the most. idk why but something about her even in darkside seemed kind of plastic-y to me. i hope they keep in young!leon's freckles too, omg they were so cute.

TBH I would have loved Darkside's designs and character presentation if it wasn't for that one change to Alexia being... weird, esp. since I loved what they did with Alfred.

But we're talking about RE2 so that's neither here nor there.

actually, a lot of claire's standoffish behavior was on the english translation! she was a lot more friendly/sweet than in the english translation. she didn't quite know how to talk to kids she didn't know to begin with and the scene was less awkward in japanese, although really we can just blame it on the low budget bad writing overall and the fact they wanted to endear moira to us/natalia. i think there are some translations floating around and it really changes the way claire was and makes her evolution less extreme. i'm someone who appreciates that she's more hardened, however, since it makes sense that she's done some growing up and has Seen Things.

oh i definitely didn't think it was direct sexual contact. more like re3 with nemesis? either way the very idea is kind of stomach-churning. i get the feeling it'll be played more like a straight-up virus and i'm 100% okay with that.

yeah i think that was just the way darkside looked for a lot of characters? that blur filter tho. the designs were really nice, at least and i have to say i love Battle Damage Ada even if it didn't quite make sense (although i'd love to see her work the fake-damsel angle with that better).

they seem to be making good decisions with child va lately but i kind of will miss the bad voice acting. then again, i always forget that sherry is 12 and not like 7...

i think i just get hung up on the fact that they pulled out steve's "they're more reliable than any person" line wrt guns, because claire was pretty floored and offended when he said that to her, and imo she had no reason to really feel that way at that point in her character arc. i think it would've made more sense if she had said it after the whole neil thing happened, but that early in the story just. it stuck with me and bothered me for the rest of the game. because thinking on it now, the rest of claire's characterization didn't really bug me all that much. just that line and the whole moira/natalia thing made me go "wtf are they doing, this isn't claire at all"

there were a lot of things they pulled that made me kinda :/ with game of oblivion. it's really sad because i think the line would've been delivered in a way that made him very sympathetic where some can't see beyond his old va.

i personally didn't find any of the side characters to be really three-dimensional at all. it felt like most of them just distracted from the plot and the characters that were there. moira was less harsh in the original script, as well. a lot of claire's aggressiveness or tired-of-this-shit is softer, surprised, or concerned in a way that isn't in your face. she doesn't come off as angry toward alex and even sounds empathetic and moira calls back to steve (which i think might have been why claire sounded that way) and claire really seems to get that it was neil doing it all versus alex. there are several instances where claire's concern isn't overbearing in the way that you first meet natalia, as well.

the entire neil situation doesn't have moira harping on him being claire's "boyfriend" and they both seem concerned about him. claire isn't as angry when moira brings up the bracelet and the entire fight is disappointed and upset versus angry again. in the elevator she sounds more frightened. neil's motives are also his own (though it's clear it's about the fbc). basically they only did claire a disservice in english, sadly. it also felt like it had more callbacks to cvx and how it affected her and how she reacts during this game.

it's worth noting that it's the same localization team that did cvx and added things in such as the parts that make it seem like alfred was in love with alexia, which wasn't present in the original game.
